Good for you! I dated a guy who dumped me after about 2 weeks because I told him the average life span after transplant was 7 years. He had his mind completely set on my death in 7 years! I'm happy he dumped me because his stupid comments and sob story reasons for sadness/depression made no...
The first sentence I quoted... I've been in the same situation and I agree. It's very immature and in my personal opinion also selfish. (I have reasons against him for why I think he was selfish) Great advice about communicating and talking openly of solutions to problems. Nothing will change...
Thanks for the clarification Marcie. I receive SSI income. I've never had the chance to work since I became very ill at the young age of 11 and transplanted at 15. I obviously don't qualify for SSDI. I agree ALL of the payments, no matter which one are definitely confusing and frustrating as...
This is an off topic question that differs from the original poster. I'll answer it briefly. If you still have questions feel free to pm me.
Some CFer's choose not to get married for financial reasons because people like me who have insurances like Medicare & Medicaid would lose our health...
Hi Kelli,
I can relate to what you're saying. I'm in a 2 and a half year relationship and I've felt the exact same way you are feeling. It's a hard thing to accept and I've seem to have gotten past it. I receive disability income as well. It's just enough money for me to pay for groceries, my...
hmm...unfortunately, I don't have much info about all of these but I do have experience with COTA. I used it after my transplant with fundraising to help pay the costs of medical bills and living in a different state at the time of my transplant. I know for sure that COTA does not pay bills...
I agree with you. As far as physical appearance (being short/small), I would think this would be a bit difficult to deal with for the teen boys/men.
Welcome to the forums Braxton. I'm happy to hear that you're doing so well! :) I wish you the best
When I got tired of apple sauce my parents used pudding, whipped cream or chocolate syrup. I hope you figure out what she will be willing to eat soon! Good luck
*hugs*
Well said Liza. I forgot about the med approval! My center is very strict on that as well. Any meds prescribed by other doctors and even over the counter stuff HAS to be approved by the transplant team...I agree with your daughter, I would rather take a butt load of pills in trade for doing...
Hi there,
To answer your first question, yes CFers are still treated at CF clinics after transplants. (where I'm at anyways) Where else would they boot us? lol :D If you go to a transplant center already, many of the CF doctors are very knowledgable about transplants as well as CF and...
I love it here too! :) I've met (not literally) so many close friends though this community over the 8 years that I've been coming here. They are so much like family (L) I hope you continue to be with us for a while!
Writing is one of the best ways to express yourself. I'm happy you are able to open up and share your story! Taking charge and doing what is right is the best thing you can do :) Jeanne has helped so many other people. I'm happy she could help you through Medrise.
Stay Strong!

Hi Jacen,
Welcome to the CF community :) I'll try to answer your question the best I can. I also have a G-tube that I use every night. First of all, what do you mean by "accidentally unplug the cord or knock it out"? My feeding pump is on my side of the bed so my boyfriend is nowhere near it. I...
Hi Rosie,
I agree 100% with everything that Joni has already stated below. It's normal to have those feelings but not healthy to think negatively ALL the time. I have professional help every 3 months and from time to time I talk to certain family members that I'm really close to. I also have...
Hearing loss isn't related to CF alone. At least no doctor has ever mentioned that to me. I know enough individuals with CF that have no problems with hearing.
I agree with this statement. TENS units are used mainly for muscle pain not internal organs. I love my TENS unit. I use it on my upper and lower back. It feels like you're getting a deep "massage" I avoid narcotics which is easy to do in my city/state because doctors are VERY strict with those...
The sudden loss was all mild hearing loss. Then, I gradually lost hearing within one year or less (can't remember exactly. It was too long ago) ultimately resulting in deafness.
I have severe hearing loss/complete deafness from Amikacin I.V. I was on it long term, as it was the only medication that was able to fight the Mico-bacteria at the time. I now have cochlear implants to help me hear. Amikacin is EXTREMELY ototoxic.
