    Want to donate VEST

There has to be a reason why this kid was so sick besides allergies. Did they look into other reasons? Kids just don't FTT or get as sick as yours did without a good reason. Did they check his entire immunological panel to see if he was deficient in any of his antibodies? Perhaps CF was ruled...

    Staph A now in urine

Yes, years ago I had chronic UTI's , staph was a common bug in my case. Bacteria is everywhere, staph is no exception so any part of your body can get an infection when it is vulnerable. Girls are unfortunately more susceptible to UTI's. E coli is another common bug to culture in the urine...

    Sudden change in blood sugars

Perhaps your body was stressed....when under stress, it produces more natural steroid (corticosteroids) which can raise sugars.. So maybe the added stress did it, but I am just speculating. I have found that my sugars have done that at times as well, they will be nearly perfect and then start to...

Anyone ever been on advair then changed to flovent the next day?

It could because it too has long acting bronchodilator similar to what is in Advair.....I watch for symptoms and am monitored closely because my heart can be twitchy at times. So far, I am doing well. Jenn 40 wCF

Anyone ever been on advair then changed to flovent the next day?

I was switched from Advair to symbicort (the powder from the Advair was irritating) and have had good results. Flovent alone is just the steroid without the bronchodilator, so if you have an irritable heart, that may be why the doc switched you to an inhaler that has just the steroid. Jenn 40 wCF

    Results of OGTT...

A snippet from the article posted above: "ucose concentrations. CFRD. Breath glucose was higher in patients with CFRD than in all other groups, including CF patients without diabetes. CFRD patients also had a higher breath-to-blood glucose ratio than CF patients without diabetes, indicating that...

    Anyone have chronic pain?

Unfortunately, I also deal with chronic pain. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which essentially causes my joints to slip in and out of their sockets easily due to a collagen deficiency.. This in turn causes pain, all of the time.. Some days are worse than others. To add to my joint discomfort, my...

    Visiting in the hospital

I don't think it would be bad to visit him, like another person said, you can wear gloves and gown up, and make sure you wash your hands above all else before and after you visit him. The only time I don't visit is if they were admitted for an infectious process , especially respiratory like...

    the Dr says not cf.

I really hope that you find a doctor who will give you concrete answers. I can't understand why the doc said no CF when 2 mutations were found....do you happen to know what they were? I'm just curious. I totally understand that doctors do not know everything and are fallible, so I agree that...

Is there an easier way to give my toddler the salt he needs?

I agree, regular food would be better for adding salt. Drinking a salty concoction would make me gag too! Do it in divided amounts, not all at once and he probably won't even notice. Good luck! Jenn 40 wCF

Sould we be doing breathing treatments

Doctors are either proactive or reactive, some prescribe the vest, nebs etc despite good lung function as a preventative to keep the lungs as healthy as possible, some treat as needed. I think it also depends on the type of CF (now don't shoot me, some people present asymptomatic because of...

    Metoprolol and advair

Carly, I am on metoprolol (lopressor) as well as symbicort (similar to advair). The metoprolol I take for my SVT's and am on 100mg twice a day. I have been diagnosed with asthma, which complicates my CF a little. I am watched closely because beta blockers (metoprolol is in that class of meds)...

    Really scared...

I would start back into the habit of getting his meds slowly if it seems overwhelming to you. Like Frank said, the albuterol and pulmozyme are pretty important, so start with those. After awhile, it will be like second hand and your son will become accustomed to this. This is the perfect time to...

    Rehab frustration

I agree with Jonathan, Hydrotherapy sounds like it would be less intense on your joints. Years ago, I went through hydrotherapy because my joints would just dislocate with anything aggressive, but I needed the range of motion and so this was prescribed. I loved it, I got a decent workout without...

    Asking People to Visit?

Hope you get to go home today! I hear you when it comes to boredom though. When I am in, I am in for at least 2-3 weeks, I am not a huge fan of TV either but will watch it if nothing else comes to mind. As far as visitors go, they are infrequent due to the travelling that they have to do to get...

    Sore toe...just one side

Yeah, I would mention this to your doc, could be a stress fracture or even gout. I know as CF'ers, we are more prone to gouty arthritis,(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21719891) it usually affects one joint, may involve stiffness, pain and swelling. If it is gout, there are medications that...

    Nocturnal

When I was still working as a nurse, I found that the evening (3-11) was best for me, I am by no means a morning person and once done with my shift, I would stay up until about 3ish and then finally fall asleep, waking up around 10 or so. I have a similar sleeping schedule now, but with more...
