Just for fun but CF related - Real things doctors have said to me in the hospital

This isn't related to my lung issues but it popped back into my mind as a wtf medical moment. I was getting an ultrasound for bleeding at 9 weeks pregnant. As I was processing the fact that the fetus was not going to make it--the heart rate was 60 bpm (way too low) and it hadn't grown in a...

Just for fun but CF related - Real things doctors have said to me in the hospital

Love it! Nicely done. I am sure it will resonate with many. My latest by an ER dr was "Where did you get your pseudomonas infection from?" If I hadn't been all sick and confused, I would have liked to answer: "Oh, well, I nebulize mud when I'm feeling bored."

    Adults diagnosed in their 50's?

That immunity study sounds interesting. I'm also fascinated by links between TB and arthritis, and hormones and MAC. Kgfrompa, I can just imagine the quests for antibiotics you went through. I'm glad you are getting proper treatment now.

    Adults diagnosed in their 50's?

Stephen, Thanks for replying. I also see the value in testing and a CF dx--three of the treatments/meds you listed are not covered by insurance for non-CF bronchiectasis (vest, cayston & pulmozyme). I went to NJ three yrs ago, but was only given the 95-panel test, I think because my bacteria...

    Adults diagnosed in their 50's?

Do any of you mind sharing your sweat test numbers, also if your mutations were found in the 23 or 95 panel tests? My sweat test was negative, not borderline, as a baby and again as an adult, and I don't have a single mutation in the 95 panel. Yet I still wonder if I should ask my pulmo for...

    Weight Gain

Same boat here. Since infection in October I've been 5+ lbs under. Prior to this, i have weighed the same amount since high school with little variation. Now I'm at my junior high weight and I am eating past the feeling of fullness every day. I've been eating piles of cheese and dumping...

    Joint Pain

Danny, My primary care dr told me about people with arthritis who've found that having bees sting them alleviates their arthritis symptoms. I guess the theory behind this is that it redirects the immune response to some place other than the joints. That would make sense with what you describe...

    I'm In Shock

I hope you get some answers. Please share what you find out; I am always curious about cases of late dx (or low sweat test, which I have).

    Having more children

I think the relationship your kids have with relatives is an important consideration. When my kids were younger they saw their able-bodied grandparents a few times a year and I would not have left them with them for an extended period of time. They didn't have a familiarity with each other and...
