Adjusting to "The Vest"

In December the SmartVest rep came by and showed us how to use the equipment. He told us to do a "program" that looks like the following: (this program that he programmed into our compressor is for a 17 month old who has NO lung involvement and the vest is preventative right now)

8-10 minutes at 10 Hz
8-10 minutes at 12 Hz
8-10 minutes at 14 Hz

We're only at 5 minutes of each, but Abby SCREAMS. This can't be right. The 14Hz hurts me!

I read on here about kids napping during their vest treatments. My child's face turns red, her chest and shoulders were red after tonight's treatment, and she vibrates across the floor if someone isn't holding her.

DH told the CF clinic what the Hzs were and they received a fax from the rep telling them what he created as her initial program. I just can't believe that the treatment has to be so incredibly rough for her. Maybe it does and I just wasn't doing manual CPT hard enough...???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

my son had no lung problems when he got his vest when he was 3 and the highest setting he did was 10 Hz. and he still hated it. he is now 6 and he puts it up to 14 Hz but it took us a long time for him to get use to that level on his vest. but he also fought us when we did cpt without the vest. dont give up we had a hard time with our son. it always hurt his stomach for some reason.

We took my kids to see Dr. Warwick who invented the vest. I told him that my kids did not like 14hz but wanted 12hz. He said "they know what is best for them and to listen to them. If 12hz is the highest they are comfortable with, than that is what we should do." Hope that helps.

We worked our way up to 14 and he still doesn't sleep or fall asleep during vest treatments, even when DH was out of town, I'd have to use 10 hz in the early mornings while DS was still sleeping and he'd be very restless -- half awake and not very happy. A lot of times we'd start off right away slowly, go with the 14 and then ease our way down to 12 and then 10. DS was 2 1/2 when he got his vest.
