i have been tempted to by a dyson, but figured that my husband would kind of flip out on me if i spent 500 dollars on a vaccum. in the townhouse we had before the house we are in now. i hated lugging it up the stairs (so i made sure this house was one story <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">) when we moved in the house we are in now i tried using my eureka, but the motor had burned up from the dog hair, cat hair, and misc pieces of dog toys i had sucked up. the hair got caught in the hose and lessened my suction so bad that it killed the vaccum. so when we moved into this house i bought bissell cyclone. I have one dog and two cats and all three of them shed pretty well. my only problem with this vaccum now is the dog and cat hair get stuck in my filter and i have to stick my hand in a one inch hole so that i can pull clumps of hair out in pieces. so i have been seriously looking at the dyson animal and have talked to my husband about getting it. i told him after we buy new cell phones and get rebates next feb we could take the rebates and then fork out the rest of the money to buy the dyson. and i explained to him that it would be good for me, good for him, and especially good since we are expecting. does anyone know if they've had a problem with hair getting caught in a filter on the dyson? my vaccum now has two filters (one of them is a hepa and the other one is for i don't know what, but the second one is where stuff gets caught). thanks for any help you guys can offer! i've really been enjoying reading all the positive feed back on the dyson!</end quote></div>

This is exactly why I am so rough on vacuums. I am glad its not just me.

Ever hear of a rainbow? I've owned mine for over 12 years. I was freaked out when the wife wanted one. It cost 2 grand at the time. I told her she was nuts. Now, I wouldn't own any other brand. In fact, I have two. It uses a water filtration, so you can use it for for small water cleanups. I even used it when a painter knocked over a can of paint. We sucked it up with the vac, then used water on the spot, sucked that up, can't even tell there was a spill.

I believe that to know if the vacuum is 'good', in that how much dirt is actually put back into the air, the real fine stuff - put a spotlight or flashlight behind the vac, then see if there is any dust created when it is running. There won't be any with the rainbow! They cost about 4 grand new, now. You can find them refurbished for around 300. IMHO, it's well worth the money!

We wear all of the brushes down to nubs, and have to buy new attachment heads every couple of years! Well worth the money to me, but they aren't for everyone.

I have a Dyson, the basic model, not the one special for animal hair but I still think it works great. My husband bought it on sale at Home Depot I think for $360. Funny story how I got the Dyson. My kids got into this huge box full of packing styrofoam peanuts, from a delivery my husband ordered. While I was on the phone with my sister the kids thought it would be fun to play in the styrofoam peanuts like they were taking a bath, or it was snowing. Let me tell you; the mess they made was something I can't even describe. The styrofoam kept breaking into smaller and smaller pieces, getting scattered ALL OVER my downstairs. It literally looked like it snowed inside my house. I FREAKED. I thought Maggie might breathe those little styrofoam things in. I found them in her nose, her ears. The kids were laughing thinking it's so fun. It is IMPOSSIBLE to clean those peanuts up. They are static so they just stick to you and you can't get them in the trash. I broke my old K-Mart special vaccum trying to clean. I cleaned for hours, found those peanuts days and days afterword. My husband came home from work that night, I just looked at him and said"You are buying me a Dyson, and you are NEVER allowed to get anything shipped in styrofoam peanuts" Got my Dyson<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
