When I was little, my mommy had me listen to Rush Limbaugh archives over and over and over.

Piper, I did contact "lower" in the CFF and was told that for the nature of my proposal, it needed to go to the CEO (I started here with my local chapter).

Entropy, I totally disagree that someone who REALLY has a passion for it should do it for free. That's just idiotic. We all have to live and pay our bills. However, I do find it absolutely disgusting that the CEO of the CFF makes what he does. No offense, but I could do his job with my freaking eyes closed, and I'd be happy with $80k a year. I'm a single mom raising triplets, I go to school full time, I run a household (cook, clean, laundry, education with the kids, maintain a yard...), and run a business. The fact that that man thinks he is entitled to $500k a year, and the fact that YOU ALL are putting up with it is just absurd (at least in MY opinion)

My biggest complaint with the CFF is this: They are FANTASTIC at contributing $$$$ to research, which has PROLONGED the life of countless CFers. and, I will agree that in recent years they have established some good "assistance" stuff for patients. However, I think that they need to focus more on the QUALITY of life they are creating CFers, instead of simply counting the QUANTITY. That's my soap box, and I'm not getting off it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Are the thousands of volunteer firefighters and EMT's in this country idiotic? They do what they do because they are passionate about helping people, and they do it for free.

@havoc

I think she was trying to express that the idea that people should be forced to do important and charitable jobs for free is idiotic, not that people who volunteer their time don't deserve our respect. We're all grateful for the numerous volunteers who supplement and, in times of great need, supplant paid workers.

I guess it depends on how much work is involved. I don't know how much work the CEO of the CFF does, but I can say that I have seen volunteers hold down a full time job and sometimes an additional part time job and are still willing to go on a 3am chest pain call, or respond to a structure fire.

I think the deciding factor is how passionate you are about the cause. If it's just another job to you, you're obviously going to want a lot of compensation. If you truly believe in what you are doing, the act itself is the reward.
