Add me to the "exact same thing" club. My fingernails do just that (plus they have vertical ridges that split, too- thanks dad ), but my toenails are great. Go figure.

For me I have always had the same problem but honestly it can be contributed to our absorption issues. We have vitamin deficiencies in so many things that it can really play games with our system.

I will add this though I don't know if it has any real bearing on fingernails you may want to ask about your magnesium levels or other mineral levels.

I say that because my nails since transplant have been really healthy. At first I thought it was maybe better saturation better health= better nails. Then I started thinking the first week or so they were not any different but once I started taking a magnesium supplement in the hospital - which I am still taking now. I started to notice that my nails got stronger. They do NOT crack and peel off like they used too. Seriously - I had a whole layer of my toe nail peel off shortly after transplant - before starting the magnesium. I have had some mild chipping or peeling since starting the magnesium but most of that was brought on by my hitting my fingernail or scrapping it on something - not it happening just because like it used too.

I again do NOT know if magnesium has anything to do with nail health in general but wanted to through that out there.

Also for Amanda. The flexible nail thing may be a calcium related issue. I have heard that or been told that before - so maybe taking something like viactiv daily would help - I take the Strawberry Cream Viactiv chews 2-3 times a day (with most meals) and they are like strawberry taffy and an easy thing to remember. Just a thought on that for you.

If you like jello, eat some jello. You'll notice your nails will be so much stronger within 2 days. There's an ingredient in there that helps your nails, but I can't remember what it is...

When I was in my 20's and actually took care of my nails and painted them all the time, I would just eat the jello powder, instead of going thru the ritual of actually making the jello!
