Isn't this thread GREAT?!

Melissa: LOL. Yeah, Where's Patty now?!

Steven: I don't know why, but if I leave my Vette more than a few days w/o driving it, the battery goes dead (new battery too). The original radio blew and since it would be $1000 to replace, I got my own radio and put in the back and use a remote. I think the radio is drawing power and making the battery flat. My boyfriend says no, it was like this before.

So I leave the battery disconnected and reconnect it when I drive it. Which is why I don't have pics. yet. First waited for a sunny day for a good pic. Now it's sunny, but my BF has not been around due to work. So I will get to it this weekend. And yeah, we have some cool muscle car women around here. I never met any until here, so maybe it is in the genes.

AnD: Love both cars but the van is beyond hot!

Robert: You are so lucky to have that truck as your first car.

Paula: Even with the Mom van, you're cool.

Just a quick thought...did you happen to check the charging circuit to the battery...such as the alternator, or (i think it was still called) the regulator?

It's not normal for a battery to "suddenly" discharge without having some path from plus to ground. If not in the charging area (is the alternator even giving any charge?), then there may be something else giving a heavy load that isn't switched by the ignition key. This could've been caused by the radio blowing, taking something else out with it when it blew...

There might be some old "Sam's" prints or something for the car's wiring out in the web world...

another point to make (which I only learned recently) is that for "maintenance-free" lead-acid batteries, they are like gigantic Duracell bateries...they will discharge eventually, no matter how much you charge them because the electrolytes will eventually escape when converted to a gas during charging. The alternator will extend the life of the battery until all the acid is expended, but the life will eventually diminish...however, if the car actually ends up running ON the battery, this would also cause it to be discharged so soon.

The advantage to the original type of lead-acid batteries is that you could always add more acid in the battery (but that type was also prone to the cells fusing-thus shorting together)

Hope your problem with the vette can be easily found and fixed...and I hope my input is of some help...its a waste to see such artwork spoil... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

And yea Robert...you're lucky to have a first car look like that! (My first car was that Pinto, and the rust on it was free!)
