I don't know about canada but in the UK we absolutely do not share rooms. i have never heard of anywhere where that would happen! At my hospital we have a specialist CF ward. cepecia patients are not allowed in it but instead go to side rooms on pulmonary wards.

Hey Mandy, Sorry you have to go in <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> ..
I think everyone gave you good info.. As far as that RT goes, i believe that you can refuse to have someone take care of you if you don't want them to.. So if that RT or anyone for that matter is not following the rules i wouldn't let him touch me w/ a ten foot pole..
The RTs come in direct contact w/ the other c/fers..
It pisses me off when then don't wear gloves and i don't know if they have washed their hands or not..
Oh well that's my two cents worth <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
Take care, God Bless and keep us posted ~ <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0"> joni

HI,
I didn't read all the responses but I feel your pain!!!! I HATE that about my hospital. It seems so backward!
I was admitted and I was literally striaght across the hall from another CF'er, she kept her door open, wore a mask but UNDER her nose, not over, etc. And she had CEPACIA. Well before I left the hospital during that stay (2 wks) I had cultured Cepacia. Luckily I was negative for it but it gave me the scare of a lifetime!!!
I always try to do home IV's. ALWAYS!
I would most certainly tell everyone to garb up as if you were in isolation. Be strict about it, so many people don't follow the rules. Make sure they wash hands (and stethascope...however you spell that). Because so many times it goes from one person to the next.
I think next time I have to go in, I will wear a mask, gloves and gown everytime I leave my room. I don't even care. I have certain things I leave at the hospital and do not bring home. Slippers, toothbrush, shampoos, etc. It's just not worth the risk!
Good luck to you!!!

Stay healthy!
