Andrew is 9 and has been on Rhinocort and Zyrtec for about 3 years now. We tried different allergy meds, but zyrtec did the trick. His sinuses are much more clear...they don't get as "sticky" as they used to.

I also wanted to mention that I have had a great experience with our CF / pediatrician team. We recently moved to North Carolina from Michigan, but in Michigan the doc at UM and my family doctor were always in communication so I knew that if there was an issue our family doctor was unsure of, she would check it with our CF doc before prescribing. I felt that between the three of us we had great communication. When we moved 6 months ago everything was new, so I asked our new CF doc, Dr. Davis, (Love Her!), if she could recommend a pediatrician in our area with whom she would have a good working relationship. She gave me a name, we have met him,(love him, too!), and I once again feel that we have a great healthcare team going here.

Sometimes it's up to the patient to facilitate the relationship between care center and family practice. If one or the other is unwilling, I might question why. And, while it's very polite of you to consider how busy your CF center is dealing with CF and not wanting to bother them with other issues,(you sound so sweet!), remember that you are placing your prized possession, your child, under their care! You have the right to ask them any medical question you want.
Good Luck!

It's nice if you can find a peds doctor whose knowledgable about CF and works well with your CF doctor. Our concern when DS was diagnosed was being able to find a local doctor, unfortunately, our CF doctor was never able to find anyone locally. Our primary peds doctor does run the local CF Clinic, but that group just doesn't play nice with others -- don't like sharing info... It's like dealing with a jealous brat and stresses me to no end. At DS's recent well child appointment, and other ones, it was very uncomfortable -- it's as if local doctors are trying their darndest to find fault with our primary CF doctor instead of focusing on DS's health.

My non-CF oldest son has bad seasonal allergies, and he needs a combination of meds to get them under control EVERY year: singulair, zyrtec and then a 5 day course of orapred. It stinks!!!

As for calling the ped or the CF doc, I agree with call the one who seems to know the most about the issue. I only call the ped when the CF team has exhausted their concerns and send me back to the pediatrician. When I took my daughter for her 15 month well child, I was fresh out of her first CF hosptialization. During the IV experience, her liver enzymes elevated quite a bit and I was really concerned. Our CF doc has said NO TYLENOL, EVER. For her, because of possible liver issues. So I mentioned to our ped that I was concerned, and she answered that I shouldn't worry, "CF kids don't have liver issues". How's that for uneducated? And she did a rotation with THIS CF center just a few years ago!!! I decided that she can't care for my daughter with anything CF related. Just basic baby/toddler stuff.
