College and CF?

Hi! Well I just recently started my freshman year at a community college, taking my prerequisites for respiratory therapy, and I was wondering how many classes the average CFer takes a semester? I am just 3 units under full-time taking 9 units, which is 3 classes @ 3 units per class. I figured since high-school was a little overwhelming and since I did homeschool my last 2 1/2 years of highschool, i didn't want to overwhelm myself with a buttload of classes lol! I know some 'normal people' so to speak, are taking 19 units! ooh man that is just too crazy for me to think about! How many classes are ya'll taking and how do you deal with it? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I need some advice to not get overwhelmed lol. Also, college is DEF not k-12 schools, and if you miss an assignment a lot of classes wont accept makeup work <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> What if you have a doctor appt that day? Ahh, I need to learn the ropes! I have CF, it doesn't have me, and I certainly wont let it get in the way of my goals. Ya know? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> xx.

It can get rough and I've often found myself dropping a class because of missed work or being sick. On that note, I HIGHLY recommend registering with the disability services at your college. Though you may not consider yourself disabled or you may be a very healthy CFer overall, being registered with them can prevent professors from giving you problems for missing work due to dr appts, illness, etc. I am registered with disability services at my school and some semesters I need nothing at all from them. Other times, they've really helped me get through a class with a persnickety teacher that doesn't want to give me a hand with missed work or due dates.

I usually took four days sometimes up to a 10 hour period a day. i was in culinary school so it was very demanding but extremely fun. i was a full time student. you just go with what you think you can handle and adjust it to what you can handle before the deadlines or something like that lol sorry sweety i wasnt much help but i tried goodluck hun

I didn't usually tell my instructors about my having CF unless I had to miss a class because of an appointment. When I got into the nursing program at my college, though, I had to do a round of PICC line antibiotics the first semester, so of course I had to tell everyone about it then. It was difficult to keep up with classes and get all my treatments and everything done, but it's just something you have to do. You get used to it.
