Hi Leigh
Unfortunately with type 1 it's a bit more complicated then cfrd. My son developed Type 1 last dec and immediately becaame insulin dependent, four injections a day. He now has a pump which makes things easier.
I realised he had diabetes because he was drinking a lot and going to the toilet peeing a lot. He also lost a lot of weight. I thought it was cfrd ofcourse. Anyhow, with type 1 the immune system destroys the beta cells in the pancrease permanently and people are insulin dependent for life. With cfrd people's diabetes comes and goes for a fair while, and you dont usually get it until your older.
On the good side, since he has been diagnosed he hasnt really been on a cf diet because he has put on so much weight.
It was very shattering to discover that he not not one but two chronic diseases. The diabtetes impacts his life all day every day, we had to change with that, the highs the lows....it was very scary.
Then there's the cf...anyhow, I'm not saying that cfrd isnt similar because it is once you become insulin dependent. My major concern is how the diabetes will impact his cf in the future...anyhow, it's greaty to be able to share both things with others <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
