Hi
pretty lucky I saw this post as I dont come on the site much at the moment I'm so sorry to hear about your son!! What a blow that must have been for you.

I found that the insulin seems to assist Sam at lot with weight gain, so it is possible that you might not have as much trouble in that area from the cf point of view.

It can be very hard at the beginning, its another world (again!!!). We find that the diabetes takes precedence over the cf at this time. Sam has been very well cf wise since we found out he had diabetes (thank goodness).

I think the pump would be THE most helpful thing to manage the diabetes. try to get one asap...you will notice a huge difference. Hoping good things come your way, and please pm me or Murgie if you like...i dont know how often she comes on here either, I used to come along all the time but have been busy. I will check for sure

from the cf/diabetes diet side (just a quick add), we have been told to emphasise the cf diet, so dont limit Sam's sugar intake etc. However, as I said, we havent had to worry about his weight at all since his diabetes diagnosis. we give extra insulin for higher carbs etc.

My Sam just turned 14 yesterday He weighs 60 kilos and is a lot taller than my now!! He will be six foot tall they say (following the growth chart)...he will be the tallest in our family He has always been lower weight to height ratio, but now is looking very well. Hasnt had any cf issues for a couple of years.

Maybe finding the diabetes early (in your case) might actually be a real bonus for your little one ((hugs))
