Do CF commercials bother anyone else?

I have to admit I've only seen Canadian CF commercials, so those of you from other countries may have to elabourate on your own (well, provided you feel the same way... maybe it's just us!)
But I HATE the commercials that have someone talking about themself, and then at the end it says, "You're more likely to give to CF if you know someone who's dying from it." Things like that 'dying from it' sure don't make me want to tell my friends that I have CF. I understand they're trying to make you give money (which is good-- I appreciate medical advances as much as anyone else!) but isn't this sensationalizing a little bit? For most people, you're living with CF, not dying from it. Or in only the same way that you're dying from life.
There's also some more recent ones that have someone doing something normal, like folding clothes, and then they suddenly can't breathe and then deflate. Which is even more of a misconception-- CF doesn't just strike you down as you're doing something normal (well, if you're healthly enough to be folding clothes, or whatever!).
Yes... I just wanted to know if things like this bother other people as much as they do me. Or at least just to vent some annoyance. So thank you for the latter, even if no one agrees with me. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have never seen CF commercials here in the States. Maybe I don't watch the right channels. The only CF related commerical I have seen is someone running for a political position. They want to "set the record straight" when another politician running for the same position claim they were not helping our states children in school. In the add she say "In 1989 (maybe 87) I lost my 11 yr old daughter to Cystic Fibrosis and I made a promise to help disadvantage children. So when (there politican name here) says...." Thats not word for word, but basic thing the same. She opened about her daughter dying from CF and she now helps school children and wants your vote. To me it has nothing to do with what she is running for, its like she is playing the pity card to get votes to win the election.

Couldn't agree more with you. Like you, I can't stand the one of the "deflating" people. Most that I have seen over the years have been ok but these ones, I really dislike.

id rather have the commercials dramatise cf than downplay it. all of the commercials ive ever seen downplay it so much that people get the impression that its 'just a bit of asthma'. ive had so many people say things to me like "oh so you just take some pills and have physio and youre fine, right?" "why do you have [insert cf complication here] problem? i thought cf just made you cough?". they got those ideas from advertising. i want people to see all the gory details.

I agree with Kybert. I also feel that because CF can change quickly & is so complicated that a pic of someone "just folding laundry" & deflating is accurate. I could be that person the last week. No one would know it because I put on the "I still have things to do cf or no cf face". If the seriousness of CF is not shown then it wont get the attention. Its as simple as that. If a commercial could show the progression then maybe it would be more accurate, but not to show the "gory" stuff isnt the answer either.

It is hard to see those commercials, esp if they don't apply to you at this time. It's a little scary and it hurts. But I'd rather they dramatize cf than downplay it, or just cast it as a child's disease, which it no longer is. The problem is, if someone sees a dramatic sad commercial like that, they more likely to look more into what cf is and hopefully contribute something.
