I'm a lab instructor at the university I go to. Most of the kids I teach have no idea about the CF, but the other professors do and they get super excited about talking to me. I can't say it's my favorite discipline in school, but it makes me feel normal. Everyone in Microbiology loves to hear about the drugs you're on or the bacterium you're growing. I'm going to apply for medical school in June '09. It took me a bit longer in school too, 5 years for a 4 year degree.

I had the idea that I should just do something that would get me paid fast because I wasn't going to live that long. But in the end I remembered a car crash could kill one of my "normal friends." So, in the end I decided I should do what made me happy.

Thank you so much for all your answers.
I am moving to the Netherlands. My sister has been living there for 8 years and i´ve always wanted to go through the experience of living in Amsterdam, it´s such a diversed and interesting city!
If it doesn´t work out i´ll just come back home.
I travel quite a bit and have worked abroad before and in my country but i always wonder if everyone else feels a bit guilty for working and pushing ourselves so hard sometimes. I guess not ,which is a good thing

I was a school teacher in art. Teaching seemed like a great career choice because I thought 'hey, half-day job' and the other favorite myth,'lots of regular vacation' but did not know how exhausting it would be, how much the students would take out of you, and that you will spend all the 'free' time either planning or just recovering from the workload. Throw in all the bugs I caught from sick students, and it was a recipe for disaster. It was really hard for me to finally realise that teaching is probably not the best for me, and at the moment i am still investigating something less hectic. Just pace yourself and you will be fine good luck with Amsterdam and keep us updated!!

Hi,

I'm a chemist in the food industry. Went to school full-time and got it done in 4 years and now I work full time. I guess it's a juggling act fitting in the treatments, exercise, etc., but I wouldn't have it any other way. I generally feel sicker when I'm lying around and not doing anything!

Good luck!
