We have a dog and my MIL asked when DS was diagnosed if we needed to get rid of him. The doctor indicated that unless there was an allergy issue, it shouldn't be a problem. He did ask us if we had cats and when we said no, he said good. Not sure what that was about... Isn't there some sort of bug that is in cat boxes that we're warned about not cleaning when pregnant? Anyway DH isn't a cat person, so not an issue for us.

We have a miniature schnauzer named Kobie. He is an inside dog and thankfully he doesn't shed. He was our "first child" and my kids age 2.5 and 5.5wcf love him to pieces (almost literally!). Just this morning my daughter with CF said to me "Mom, can Kobie be MY dog to take care of, but you take care of him while I am at school? I am responsible enough to take care of him."

I think we will always have a dog, but probably not any other animals.

We have 3 dogs (did have 4) and way too many cats! We wouldn't get rid of them for the world. They are part of our family.

We have a dog and two cats. Our Pulmonologist didn't blink when I told her about them. She said that having pets is fine for CF'ers. I've also read that kids who grow up with pets have fewer allergies later in life. I sure hope that's true! -Elise
