It's really a personal choice for when you start feeds, unless of course your weight is declining out of control...
I've done both, NG and had a feeding tube...
My feeding tube was my worst decision mostly for the fact that it didn't work the way I had hoped it would. I had my feeding tube placed when I was 35kg and waiting for tx, and the drs said it was really not an option...
After 6 months of excruciating pain, leaking, raw skin from stomach acid burn, and losing even more weight from the pain and unable to eat, I decided to get it removed...
So for me my feeding tube was not only a waste of a surgery and scar, but it didn't provide the support I intended...
I know many other people have good stories about them, and they have worked but for me it didnt...
Exhaust all your other avenues before getting a permanent fixture, definitely do NG feeds, overnight as well as bolus feeds during the day...
If all else fails and your life is on the line then you may have to bite the bullet and try the feeding tube, but don't jump straight into it.
They are hideous, smell, leak stomach acid everywhere, painful and when removed you have a second belly button!!
Good luck!
