HI everyone. Just wanted to give you an update on Ricky. I got to see him today! His surgery lasted all night and finished around 7 this morning from what I understand. I saw him around 2 and he's doing great. He was opening his eyes and recognized me right away. Then he grabbed for my hand and was holding on tight! He is slowing being weaned from the vent, but no rush. The vent was at 40% FiO2 when I was there. I don't know much or anything for that matter about vents, but I think that's good. His biggest complaint was the ET tube in his mouth and how dry his mouth is. He denied having pain so that was good. I only stayed about 5 minutes because he was so sleepy.</end quote></div>

Since you have CF I am surprised that you were allowed in to see him. I would think that would be risky for him.

I'm glad he's doing well.

Kris,
I was wondering when you were going to post about his transplant :) YEAH! I am super excited. I am so glad you got to see him this morning. 40% on the vent is good (although there are other parameters we manipulate/monitor)... hopefully he'll have the tube out in the next 24 hours!!

I got to be with my brother after transplant even though I have CF too. We weren't going to be separate after that anyways as we are siblings and see each other daily. That would truly be a hardship for our family. I know a married CF couple that one had a transplant. You have to be careful though.

Actually our CF doctor took me to see him. I wore a gown, gloves and mask and was only there for 5 minutes. We have been friends for 23 years and I think she (the doctor), knows there is no keeping us apart when it comes to this! He's doing great. They are going to try to wean off the vent more tomorrow morning. Tonight he was starting to have a little more pain so they gave him some more pain medicine and something to sleep. So, as far as I know he is resting comfortably for the night!
