Julie,

I just wanted to thank you for this info. I got my policy today For me at age 29 for the Gold policy which is the same one you have the $800 per admission and $200 per day in the hospital and $100 a day at home it was $52 a month. UNREAL!!!!! Plus all the extras like er visits, surgery, fractures, even my yearly pap smear ($50)!! I am so blessed to have found this. Now the Silver policy was everything cut in half and was $21 a month. I went with the Gold. Also I did know know if you knew but they also have a Critical Care Policy. It covers organ transplants. How it works is that you have a set payout amount, $15,000, $25,000 or $50,000. You will get paid that amount when you have a transplant. There is a 2 year pre existing policy on this one. For me at age 30 ( after my next birthday ) it would be $481 a year for the $50,000. That could be a HUGE help to some families for paying the transplant expenses. Now I know with the two year pre existing it could be a little tricky on how long to wait to get it or what not but thats a huge amount. Julie do you know if the money that we get paid from these policys is counted in our taxes? Also say someone took out at $25,000 policy for the transplant policy, would that $25,000 be taxed?

I have a question regarding CFRD and how it affects this type of insurance if you get it after getting a policy.

I am thinking about being retested because I developed diabetes early on during my pregnancy, so everyone thought it would stay. It did hang around for quite awhile afterwards, but my sugars have been fine over the last few months and I'm not on any medication for them. I'm thinking if I retook the 2 hour glucose test, I would pass it now. But even if I got undiagnosed with CFRD, I'm guessing I will eventually get rediagnosed at some point in my life.

If anyone has any info on this, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I had the Combined Insurance agent come out to my house today and here is what I found out:

Gold Plan
$61.76 per month just for me (or $150.96 for the family)-we will probably do just me for now.
$600 Hospital Admission
$300 per day of Hospital Confinment
$2000 for major outpatient surgery
$200 for minor outpatient surgery
$300 intensive care per day
$100 ER treatment

Silver Plan
$30.88 per month for just me ($66.78 for the family)
$300 Hospital Admission
$150 per day Hospital Confinment
$1000 major surgery
$100 minor surgery
$150 pre day intensive care
$50 ER Treatment

Both of these also include an accident plan-I think it pays out the same as below for me in case of an accident-but I need to find out for sure.

I am thinking about the GOLD hospital plan for me, and then for DH and the kids...they have an accident plan which is only $27.75 per month for them (mine is already a hospital and accident plan).....it would cover for them:
$800 hospital addmission
$200 day hospital confinment
$200 day intensive care
and then it goes on to a list a bunch of other things....but these would only be covered for an accident (broken arm, etc).

For my plan there is a 12 month pre-exisintg sickness clause-which means CF wouldn't be covered for 12 months. It also says successive periods of hospital confinment for the same or related injury or sickness will be considered one continuous confinement unless separated by more than 30 days.

All benefits are paid to me. I've only been in the hospital once for CF issues (when I was pregnant with my first child) but I am sure i will be at some point in the future...and this insurance will help out greatly.

Marci,

Mine is actually almost more like yours. She told me once I hit 30 it will knock me up to the next bracket for payments.

Gold = $52 a month
$800 Hospital Admission
$200 per day of Hospital Confinment
$100 per day for number of days in hospital for at home recovery
$1000 for major outpatient surgery
$250 for minor outpatient surgery
$200 intensive care per day
$100 ER treatment
$250 for minor fractures
$1000 for major fractures
$50 for 2 follow up visits with a doctor after an ER visit
$50 for yearly check up
And an amount for blood transfusions ( which is great for me)
$100 ambluance / $500 life flight by air

I guess they go by states on how they do the $600 admission / $300 per day or $800 per admissin / $200 per day

Erin -- I would call a rep, I did my whole policy over the phone if you want to message me I can give you the direct number to the rep who is now mine, she is awesome. They ask you if you have to the best of your knowledge been treated or had any situations with .... blah and blah... and diabetes. Now I told them I had been tested for it. She said normal testing is normal, now since this was just gestational diabetes I dont know if it will count against you. Are you diagosed with CFRD? Or was it just gestaional diabetes, I think that will be the key right there

Erin, get retested! I posted this on www.cf2chat.com as well and one of the ladies had CFRD but was NOT on insulin, so they sold her a policy. Once you are on a policy, if you develop CFRD "again" it's irrelevant because you already have a policy. Once you are covered, the ONLY reason they can cancer your policy is for nonpayment.

If you are NOT on insulin, they should gover you. and if it was gesgational diabetes and you now test out just fine, then it won't be counted against you.

This has been a very interesting thread.

I am older, so I'm not sure how high the cost would be for me at Age 50. And I rarely, rarely go in the hospital or to the ER. (I get all of my IV's at home). For this reason my husband has been against me purchasing something like this.

But knowing that they may not continue covering CFers in the future makes me think further about getting a policy. We'll have to delve into this further.

Thanks, Julie!

By the way--I did end up finding the 30-day thing about hospital admissions in my information for the policy in VA.
