I go to the gym almost every day, 4-5 days on, 1-2 days off. My FEV1 is @ 44%. When I go I use O2 and I lift weights.

I HATE the treadmill, but I've been doing it more often lately - lately I've been doing the 40 min. medium impact program one or two times a week. I also play volleyball 3 or 4 times a week and lately I've been doing a boxing workout one or two times a week too. I spoke with my doc about it last week and he said the boxing workout is better for my lungs than the treadmill is, so I'm going to try to do that more often now. We have a gym at work which is where the heavy bag is.

Just FYI here is my boxing workout:
2 minute rounds, 1 minute breaks (although I think I'll cut it to 30 sec. breaks soon)
2 rounds jump rope (hate that too)
2 rounds shadow boxing
6 rounds heavy bag

I definitely feel better when I've been exercising more. Like everyone else, I exercise less when I am sick, but one of my former doctors told me it is actually more important to exercise when we are sick. It's SO hard though...

I've never used a personal trainer per se. I used to do different kids of martial arts and we would have someone pushing us which was nice, but that didn't make it any easier to go when I didn't feel like going. I could still skip if I got lazy. I think it's all about self-discipline, and you have to find that for yourself. For me personally it's all about just getting in the habit of making time for it. There is always something else to do, but you have to just decide that it is important and find the time 3 or 4 times a week.

I'm 2 1/2 months postpartum and my doc had me buy a treadmill. I will also go back the clinic next month to see a physical therapist - my clinic has a new exercise program. Doc says if it is possible to get me to run, this PT expert will make it happen.

I had a shocking experience this week. Normally I can only run for 3 minutes before my chest aches, throat burns and I feel like I can't breathe. Well, I nebbed HTS right before getting on the treadmill and I JOGGED FOR 10 MINUTES NONSTOP! Actually I could have kept going but I didn't want to put too much pressure on my knees just yet.

I've always found that mixing things up works best for me since I get bored. Classes are great for motivation. I've never had a personal trainer. Right now with the baby I am lucky if I get 15 minutes on the treadmill but ideally I'd like to have a gym membership, take exercise classes, use my home treadmill and do exercise DVD's at home. I enjoy ballet, pilates, swimming, hiking, biking, etc. I want to get a good jogging stroller in the spring too. Not sure how big baby needs to be for those infant seats you can attache to the back of your bike.

For those who hate treadmills (me included), try out an elliptical or stair trainer. I've always found those two were easier to deal with than just walking/jogging in place. If i'm gonna walk/jog i'd rather do it outside and see things than be like a gerbil on a wheel. Besides on a stair master you get a better leg work out, and an eliptical is lower impact anyways.
