Isolation precautions

They hospital I go to there is a seperate floor for cepacia. It is really in their best interest. I have insisted on gowning and gloving for years even before precautions came along. I think it is really important and a right of the patient to demand ( kindly ) for these types of precautions.
That is our right as a patient to ask for these things. You are all right in being worried about all the stuff in the hospital that can make you sick and it is smart to be proactive about it. We are responsible for our own well being. Keep up the good work. I've said this before that if you have any questions about what your hospital is doing about cepacia and RSV or anything else that concerns Infectious disease let them know you are concerned and what you are thinking about gowning up and gloves and such by calling the Infecitous disease department at the hospital you recieve your care. <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

CFers at my hospital always have private rooms. We are in reverse isolation. Everyone must wear a gown and gloves when they come into the room, and a mask if they are sick (like some others mentioned). In addition, I get my own stethoscope, thermometer, and BP cuff - single use, disposable stuff. If I were a doctor, I'd be kinda grossed out at having to put a stethoscope in my ears that had just been in someone else's nasty ears, but from a CFers standpoint, it's nice that they aren't using stuff on me that's just been used on another patient. When I leave my room, I have to wear a mask for my protection. My doctor gets angry if he catches an RT or nurse in my room who is not following reverse isolation protocol. However, our RTs and nurses often have multiple CF patients.

Hey Wheezie: More power to you. Thanks for the reminders of the tips to use for my next stay . Each patient in my hospital gets there own throw away stethescope. Makes you wonder about the quality of the stethescope doesn't it. Maybe I should get my own.

At the hospital Austin is at the put signs on the door that says to gown up and wearing masks. Some of the doctors do and some don't. All of his nurses do and so do the RT's

I have noticed like others have mentioned that it is different nurses and RT's per cf patients. Right now Austin and a 17 year old girl are the only cf'ers.
