Isolation precautions

We have private rooms and contact isolation. Before coming to this site I never cared much about the isolation and blew it off. NOW I have seen and understand the value of it and will be STRICTLY enforcing reverse isolation. I think my doc is the biggest offender of not following it--that <u>will </u>change. I do not know if the RT's ahve more than one patient or how we are slotted inot the floor plan, I will have to find that out, thanks for another good idea!

I forgot to mention that I was given by my hospital, a nice lamenated card explaining that I am on precaution and what that means for the staff. It is so helpful when people are not going by the rules or they think your just messing with them. I just show them the card and at clinic at well , so I don't have to sit in the waiting room too long or they find me another room away from the general public.

If I have a nurse come into my room who doesn't like the gowns or doesn' want to wear the gloves and chooses to ignore. Well I report them immediately after asking them to leave my, I emphazize my room. I am not having as much trouble anymore. The card really helps for clinics too. For at least handwashing and gowning. If they have seen another CF patient and they had Cepaica I wouldn't know so I have to advocate for myself and ask the nurse working with me in clinic to please at least wash her hands. Some clinics don't have gowns. In that case I try to bring my own. Hee and ask the doctor and nurse to wear one. They get used to it,. Showing the card saves on my breath and they see it is official. I can show you the card and if any of you can laminate maybe that will help. Or ask your infectious disease department to make one up for you. Or one of your favorite nurses might do it with an ok from her boss. It is a consideration anyway.

Oh yes, I have to wear a mask whenever I leave my room, which is usually just for tests. I dont' have CP but I do it for my fello CF's I don't want any of you to catch my cold or anything I might be carrying.

God Bless,

WOW! I am always in a private room and a lot times people gown up, but sometimes they don't. I never realised it was so important. I guess in the future I will insist. Also good to know you can get your BP cuff, stethescope etc...

FYI: Reverse isolation---<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.sickkids.ca/bonemarrowtransplant/section.asp?s=About+our+unit&sID=11906&ss=Reverse+isolation+unit&ssID=11938
