If the cf doctors would simply say focus on keeping active instead of
" you need to gain weight " wouldn't that take the pressure off of those who needed to gain?
It is better to be thin, have more tone and eat healthier than to worry about all those extra pounds and eat tons of carbs. The person who keeps the most active will usually will be the one to survive the illness.
Keeping active will usually result in an increased appetite. I feel that too many people worry what the scale says instead of how their bodies look and feel. If you feel strong and you are thin, you are probably in better shape than a person with cf who is heavier that has little muscle tone.
If your doctor mentions that you are underweight, just tell them it is better to be fit and active and on the thin side than chunky and inactive.
BMI are very important then again, there should be more measurements that go into the BMI in my opinion.
The end result will eventually be an increased weight gain but the message that the doctors can deliver would be to tell the patient to focus on activity.
I am just sharing this because this info has helped to motivate others.
