I was on Levaquin about 5 years ago during a lengthy hospital stay, and I'll never take that stuff again, no matter what they say. I had insomnia, weird "dreams" that began as soon as I closed my eyes. And the worst side effect of all: it messed with my stomach and digestion and I had constant nausea and vomting. I lost 18 pounds on my already small frame before it was resolved with Reglan. Sorry to bash Levaquin, but man, what is up with that stuff?!!!!

Here's a positive anecdote for you:

I loathe medication and have gotten off most of the drugs I used to take. I currently only take guaifenisen (plus all kinds of vitamins and herbs). But levaquin was a major turning point for me. After I took that, I stopped ending up in the ER and on antibiotics every time I turned around and only did so when stressors (like mid-terms and finals) dragged me down. I think I have only taken it twice. It really helped me get back on the right track after spending about a year at death's door, with few answers and little support (that was the year I was diagnosed and before I was diagnosed I was being treated like a hypochondriac who needed a shrink). I was already working at lifestyle changes and such by that time but I was so sick and knew a lot less than I do now. I just couldn't get a handle on the situation until I talked some doctor into giving it his best shot and convinced him that no one really knew what to do for me and all these conservative choices were killing me.

Hope that helps.

Oh, dear... Maybe I should start a post to list ONLY the positive stuff so I don't have to read through the negative ( I think we've covered that lots of people have lots of problems on this med, but its either that or IV meds for me and those always are really tough on my system....)

Can anyone else share POSITIVE things? I guess I could just start another post too... I can't bear to read a bunch more negative. I'm already anxious.

Thanks, Michele for sharing your experience. I hope it does the same for me since its new to me and maybe that is why other meds haven't done much... Maybe I need to find the "right" one that knocks out what ails me?

Thanks,

I went ahead and started another thread so as not to hyjack this one. Since it was a thread about levaquin side effects, I will just stay away from it until I can find out for myself.
