Looking like you have CF

I can spot an old school CFer a mile away. It's the way we breathe, our posture, our bellies, our shoulders, where we carry our weight (or lack there of) and of course, the voice. I'm sure there are many CFers that would fool me these days (the pulmozyme generation perhaps) but I think I fall into the category where I look like I have CF.

My voice is what people have always commented on just recently I told someone I had CF and the first thing they said is "that why your voice sounds like that?" yeah, thanks.

This thinking is part of what kept me in the whole denial thing for so long, especially when you're hearing it from doctors!

I too am surprized at all the shapes and sizes we come in.

I dont think I look like a typical CFer...I am 5'1 and like 124 so Im not wicked super skinny or I am not fat either. I think my face on the other hand, could be argued. I am pale with the sunken eyes.

I also definitely sound like a CFer. I dont think that I have that husky voice that some have, but I am always coughing, clearing my throat or sound like I have a frog in there. One kid in elementary school used to make fun of my voice (cuz it was nasally back then b/c of polyps) and I was devastated. And then the other day subbing, some kid said something too... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I definately don't look like a 'typical' cf'er.

As a result I get every comment from "are you sure" to "really" or just a screwy look so I have just started saying "Yeah, I'm the fattest CF'er LOL" at 5'6'' and 145lbs!
