looking young

I swore to myself I wouldn't be online at all this weekend but was just eating some very late night dinner and checking up on stuff and have to chime in on this. I've had the same problem as Sue-- I used to teach at a private school that was 2-12th grade and my first week on campus I was walking from the front office to my classroom and another teacher stopped me and said, "You are running absolutely late to class, this is unnacceptable behavior in your first week of school," and I looked at my watch because I thought he realized I was a teacher and class had started but it was 10 minutes early and then he followed it up with, "What division are you in and whose your teacher?!" He blushed every time he saw me on campus the rest of the year.

I have a baby face, and I'm short, but I also have a really deep voice and sometimes people get startled when I talk because they think I'm going to be a little kid!

So annoying.

I teach 5th grade and I routinely am thought of as a student. I also have had a lot of trouble using my credit card because they assume someone "my age" can't get their own card. I then have to show my ID and they still don't believe me! I would say that I get the young comment at least once a week if not more.

What I don't like is that it happens so much I start to think of myself as young. I sometimes don't speak up because I feel I am too young or won't be taken seriously. And, when I am really down and thinking negatively I think that I will never even live to the age where this will start to be a good thing!

Hmm..I wonder how it is related to CF? For me I thought it was because i was smaller/shorter and have a chubbier face from prednisone but now I am not sure</end quote></div>

This reminded me of a few years ago, I was teaching 7th grade and I had a French speaking student who was being abused, so I had to go down to the office and translate for her. When we got there, the social worker was on the phone with CPS and said, "Yes, she's here now ands she brought another studetn to help translate." grrrr.

And when I was teachig high school I was asked a lot for a hall pass when I was in the halls!

I think blondelawyer is right, professionally it can be a hinderance.

I get it all the time. ALL the time. I get satisfaction out of showing all my photo ids though! What bothers me is when people my own age or slightly younger make SUCH a big deal out of it (OMG i don't believe you, hey X, can you believe she's 20?! No way! etc etc), because it does make you really concious/embarrassed.

I was once using my credit card, and as I went to put my pin in, she pulled it away, got me to sign the reciept (usually here we PIN not sign) and just as I handed her back the signed thing she refused me, Saying the signatures didn't match. Luckily the manager there either didn't care, or believed me. I really don't mind it all that much except when people are rude about it!

I get it all the time and it frustrates the h*ll outta me! Just last night I stopped to get some beer and the guy carded me and when he handed me my card back he was like "wow I didn't think you were that old". I was like hey I'm not that old anyway!!

And it always bothers me when people are like oh you will love it when your older. I just wanna say yeah well I doubt I'll make it to that age and stick out my tongue haha!

I don't think it is a CF thing, well I never looked at it that way anyhow. hmmm thoughts to ponder <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
