... AND, correct me if i'm wrong, but according to the CFF.org site, the only military treatment facility that has an accredited center is lackland in san antonio (which is AWESOME btw!) and maybe hawaii has a satellite center. therefore, if that is on your paperwork that this is what you need, that would be the ONLY place they could require you to go on-base for care. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

hawaii's center according to the cff.org website is on the army base, i do believe it is called tripler army medical center. it is only avaliable to military personnel. of course if we were stationed in hawaii we would have to drive across the island for my appts (we would be stationed on the the marine air station). we were told you have to be in driving distance of a cf clinic. either way it's all annoying! there are only certain places we can go due to austin's mos. oh well, that's the military!

Candice,

You're trying to get Hawaii right? I would think you'd be able to tell them you're willing to do the drive and not be compensated if that's the case. Not sure though.

Technically, for example, I think we could move somewhere in Texas that would be a bit of a drive from Lackland, as long as we accepted that we'd be responsible for that drive. Or, say we lived in Reno and the closest accredited center is Vegas... Well, if we accepted the PCS under the condition we knew we'd have to drive a few hours to Vegas for care, I think they'd still allow us to be in Reno. Am I right? Does anyone know for sure?

I think its more of a positive thing cause they can't put CFers out in the middle of nowhere with no services. If, for example, you DIDN'T want to go to Hawaii and they wanted to station you there, you could use the fact that you would have to drive more than XYZ miles to get care. They would not be able to station you there then if that were the case. So, personally, I've only thought of the EFMP stuff as a good thing cause it gives us a bit more control that we go somewhere we have access to care.

yea. this is our first duty station and we didn't really have much of a choice. but i think hawaii would be good because of the salt air all the time. anyways i understand what you are saying though. we'll see when the time gets closer to him re-enlisting.
