Wow that is hard. My son who is 22 hates needles needs a colonoscopy won't do it. </end quote></div>

I just wanted to chime in and say to tell your son that there are so many reasons that he needs this done. Maybe you can scare him into getting it done! The doctors were going to do one on me before the Tx and then decided not to do it because I was so young and there was probably nothing wrong with my colon. Ummmm, they were wrong! Five months after the Tx I started to have really bad stomach pains and went to the doctor for it. He did a Cdiff test and it was positive. I was on Flagyl for the C-diff and it helped while I was on it and then the pain came right back when I was done with it. I was admitted to my hospital at home and then told that I had to go to my Tx clinic so they could check me out and make sure there wasn't a rejection issue going on.

I started feeling better again and was about to go home when the Tx team said that they wanted the Colorectal team to see me before I went home. Dr. Vogel from that team came in and told me that I wasn't going anywhere. I needed surgery right away to have my colon removed. I went into surgery an hour later and when I came to, the doctors said that it was way worse than they had thought and that if it had gone another few days, I would not be here today. What a waste of organs that would have been! I then had a colostomy bag for nine months. I had this nasty bag hanging off of my stomach that my sh*t would go into and I would have to empty it like 5 times a day and change the bag every three days. I also had incidences where the bag would come loose in the middle of the night and poop would end up all over me and my bed.....it was disgusting!!

If I would have known that having a colonoscopy could have prevented all of this, I would have told the doctors that I wanted it done!!! And, I want to add that I had my ileostomy reversed and that is not possible for everyone. Some people have the bag for the rest of their lives. I was lucky! Here is a site that you can go to and see my scars and maybe even show them to your son....tell him that this is what MAY happen if he does not get the colonoscopy and there is something wrong. Visit www.photobucket.com/PattiPrince and look at the Transplant section.....it shows all of my scars from everything that I had to have done.

I guess this could kind of go for the blood work too. If they don't get it done and there is something major wrong, they could end up with more than just a poke in their arm or hand for blood work!

Thanks for the support and the suggestions. I wish Jordan's problem was only with the pain. He can handle that part, and infact has handled a great deal of that with his spine problems, etc. He just can't stand the thought of the needles, and doesn't even look at them when he sees one on TV. It's that bad!

I have decided to pick my battles, and just let him be. We will keep the appt., and do the regular stuff. Unfortunately, he will have to learn this lesson the hard way. All I can do is remind him that his grandmothers on both sides have diabetes, and even without CF he's at risk. As for checking vitamin levels, he says he is fine, because he feels fine, and his weight is maintining. Of course at 18 you know it all, so what can I do?! Ugh, I just want him to be 5 again, so I can hold him down, and tell him it's for his own good.

Stacey, I can feel your pain. With Dan its not about the prick of the needle, its the fear that the tech won't do it right and they will go for a vein that we know doesn't work, and won't listen to Dan when he tells them. So then they dig around and try to make it work. Its rediculous. These are the people that tramatize them for life.
