Need Help with Enzymes and Breastfeeding please!

Hi, my daughter was diagnosed at 4 months, and was too young for applesauce. I would put pedialyte, or water in a small cup, empty the enzymes into it, and use a large syringe to suck them up and put in her mouth. It worked great, you just have to find a super big syringe so the enzymes don't get stuck. As soon as she started on babyfood I was able to switch to applesauce. Earth's Best sells super small portions of applesauce, so I used those for night time feedings. Good luck. I used to envy my mom friends who could just breastfeed their babies without all the struggle. But we do what we gotta do! xoxo Elise

i used a new spoon every time!!!! i would be able to estimate when Caleb would be hunger, so I would get the applesauce ready about 15 minutes before the expected time, so it wasn't long enough to worry about it being refrigerated. Night time was a different story of course, but i never worried about the applesauce being refrigerated. You could have it sitting on a ice pack or something??? As long as I always put a clean spoon in the applesauce, I didn't really worry about it growing bacteria or anything.

We would have a "lunch bag" with ice in it with applesauce by the bed at night so that we could just dish it out when DS woke up to eat...

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the easiest, but I'm glad your doc doesn't want to to give up BFing, ours did, and I eventually gave in...after that came a feeding tube.

Good luck with everything, and just know that "this too shall pass" there will be easier days and you can do this <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

PM me if you need anything else

Boon makes a spoon that hold about 4 ounces of baby food or applesauce. You could put some baby food or applesauce in it at night and then empty it out in the morning. I think it would be fine to be out at night. That way it's room temperature and not cold, my DD wouldn't take anything cold when she was breastfeeding. The spoon also has a cover for the spoon part that goes into the mouth so it stays clean, but I always wipe it off after we use it. DD is 2 now and we still use the spoon for taking pills. She swallows pills whole now, but still with applesauce. They sell the Boon spoon at Babies R Us and Target. Hope this helps.
