I have a question- will vaccinating them necessarily prevent them from transmitting the flu to others if they are exposed to other sick people? Someone who has immunity to a virus (due to actually having had it, or due to vaccination) already has their antibodies to keep them from getting sick... but can they still expose others? I honestly have no idea but now am wondering.

Very good ??!!!

I disagree with the State Mandating any type of vaccine. Just as I disagree with the Soldiers being mandated to get certain vaccines before being deployed. For instance, Chris had to get a ton of vaccines prior to deploying but they also wanted him to get the small pox vaccine but because he would be able to transmit small pox for a number of days following the shot they didnt give him it because of Garran.

I wonder if they will allow these healthcare workers to get a waiver from getting the shot if it turns out that they will be able to transmit it for any number of days. Otherwise all of the healthcare workers would be out of work and there would be no one to take care of the sick. In addition what if the healthcare worker had already had swine flu will they make them get the shot as well?

Personally I feel this is just another instance of where the government is getting into our business and trying to mandate our lives.

The other day we were discussing this <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.flu.gov/professional/business/smallbiz.html
">http://www.flu.gov/professional/business/smallbiz.html
</a>
Guidelines for small businesses to address issues with illness and employee absences. My MIL, a retired nursing instructor and former nurse on a dialysis and TB ward, wondered how medical centers would deal with these types of issues, as she felt that those in the medical community were expected to show up despite being on their "deathbeds". I know our local medical centers only have paid time off, not sick leave...

I had a conversation my nurse about this topic. I know that she is very upset about being forced to get the Swine Flu Vacination. From what she told me the medical field is not happy about this decision. I do not believe that making our healthcare workers in New York get the vacination will cut down on the Swine Flu in healthcare facilities. Patients will still be coming into doctor's offices, clinics, and hospitals. If they really wanted to somewhat cut down on the Swine Flu, I think everyone in New York would need to get vancinated. Besides, people travel between states so that might not work. This is just my opinion on the issue.
