Hello All,

My newborn baby girl has just been diagnosed with CF. I now have two babies with CF. My son was dx'd at 9 months old and began Creon 5 immediately. We were told to give him applesauce with his enzymes.

Well, I've since moved and am seeing a new CF team for my son and just spoke to them and gave them the news of baby girl Isabella's CF diagnosis. They called in a rx for Creon 5 and i asked if i should give my 1 week old applesauce with her enzymes.. the nurse hesitated and said she guessed that would be okay. Yikes. She didn't sound too confident.

Can anyone share with me what they put their newborns enzymes in?? Isn't 1 week old a bit young for applesauce?? I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I am breastfeeding.

I really appreciate your feed back.

Catie,
First of all Kudo's to you and what you must be dealing with, having and 18 month old and a New Born, that is what mothers day is all about! If your Isabella can tolerate the applesauce/get it down, please don't hesitate to do so, I'm sure they've told you to look for reactions, and you will ..... but the creon's benefits far outweigh the possiblities of side effects from applesauce. This is what she needs and any way you can get it to her safely is awesome. Good Luck and if you ever have time *your hands are doubly full* please say hello. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">)

Oh goodness Catie!! Congratulations on a wonderful baby girl!! I'm so sorry to hear that you have another CF diagnosis to deal with. Big hugs to you, the diagnosis is hard enough when you don't know anything about CF. I guess the good news is that Isabella won't suffer while waiting around for a diagnosis.

I don't know much about giving them applesauce that young. I'd definitely get the smoothest baby applesauce they make, and if it were me I'd buy organic as well.

Don't you think you could just put the enzymes on your nipples so she gets it as she's nursing?? LOL! Sorry if that is in poor taste, I nursed all three of my kids. But my daughter wasn't diagnosed until she was 6 months and not put on enzymes until a year (she's pancreatic sufficient).

Once again congratulations!!!

Applesauce is what we gave our son when he was diagnosed. We used the stage 1 baby applesauce. Good luck to you and congrats on a little girl!

Our son Aidan started Creon 5 at 8 days old. We mixed the beads in applesauce. Then I noticed applesauce was making him really gassy so we switched to baby bananas. He had tried all kinds of baby food with his Creon by just a few months old. He got bored of the same thing all the time.
Congrats on your baby girl.
