overweight with CF

I'm not overweight in the general population but I'm heavy for a CF'er. I'm 5'5" and 140 (or 138 depending on what time of day it is!).

I was a little heavier (prob. closer to 150) and my CF doc (who is a LARGE man) told me to lose weight because they weren't sure how my lungs would do with carrying more weight. Whatever. It was actually a depression med I was on that caused excessive eating. So I dropped it quickly when I went off that med.

I didn't see any difference when I was a little heavier to what I am now (and they don't complain about my weight now). I'm proud of my size, I don't need enzymes and I'm doing ok. So what if my muffin top (belly roll) is hanging over my jeans right now.

I had to laugh in bible study, we're talking about how women compair themselves w/other women, etc. And one person wrote, Yes I am a size 2, it just happens to have a number 1 in front of it. (size 12). I had to laugh. Enjoy your size! Enjoy everything about yourself.

I am 5' 6" at 160. At one point I was pushing 175 and was told to lose weight. Doc also told me a little over weight is ok for CF.

What I have noticed about me is I love food and I eat a lot. Went to Outback Steakhouse yesterday had the 20 ounce steak and my wife left half her 6 ounce steak, had that also plus mashed potatoes and the fried onions. All that grease and meat had me take a few trips later on to the bathroom but well worth it. A couple of hours later at night before bed had ice cream and cookies.

Yep, that's my story. People look at me and I'm "old" (49 in May!) and overweight and they are like "You don't have CF! Only young, skinny people have that!".

I was underweight and very skinny until in my 30's. I think one problem with my weight gain is that I WAS very skinny and could eat anything and everything and not gain. That established a poor eating habit, even tho I NEEDED to gain weight then. Then once I was home with my son, I was less active than going out to work each day and my husband was away more. Once my husband started taking longer truck trips I started eating to fill the boredom and loneliness.

Yes, the doctor has told me I need to lose weight. If I lost 40 lbs. we would all be happy. But it's a constant battle and hasn't been happening. I need to get more disciplined with the treadmill and Total Gym and that would be a start.

I look at skinny people who are in their 20's or younger who don't worry about their weight and eat anything and I always want to say "Enjoy it while you can...there's a good chance it's not going to last!"

I'm just under 5'7" and weigh 168lbs. My doctor is fine with the weight as I am not fat but more muscular. I could stand to lose about 10lbs I think but it is good to have that reserve. I lost 10lbs in 3 days when I had sinus surgery in December. It took me 2 months to gain it back, so a little extra is better I think.
