<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>People look at me and I'm "old" (49 in May!) and overweight and they are like "You don't have CF! Only young, skinny people have that!". </end quote></div>

I could have wrote that too-except I am 34 <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I get that from doctors all of the time - not my CF doctor...but my kids doctors, etc. Its kind of funny. Half the time they don't believe me that I have CF, I don't think. I told my kids doctor my genotypes and I think he started to believe what I was saying.

Anyways-I am overwieght-currently 160 at 5'4". I bought a treadmill though in an attempt to lose weight (would like to be at 136) and get exercise. My CF doctor has never said anything about my weight.

My son is a Double Delta, severely pancreatic insufficent, and at age 4, he weighs 56 pounds! He is a little overweight but the docs are happy with it. He is just a solid, big kid. Aidan is also very active so I think as he gets older and into sports, he will lose some of it. Right now, I am happy with it.

My son is 13, weighs 57 kilos (Australia). I believe that is around 125 lbs and he is about 5'. So he's a little bit chunky. If he didn't have cf I'd be trying to get him to lose a little! I'm expecting he'll grow taller soon, so a little extra is good! His doctor is happy with him for all the usual cf reasons.

Thanks for your responses everyone. It is very interesting to see so many overweight CFers nowadays and it's good to know I'm not alone!

I did find an article very interesting on the internet about being overweight/obese with CF. Out of a group of CF adults they looked at, 6% were overweight and 7% were obese (total of 13%); the majority of people fell into the normal category, and about 25% were underweight. But they also mentioned that the people in the overweight/obese category were mostly pancreatic sufficient and/or had mild mutations. And oddly enough I don't fall into either of those categories (I'm PI and DDF508).

But nonetheless, I'm happy that I'm able to keep on weight and not have to struggle; although, until my 20's I did struggle with my weight a lot. I guess all those fatty foods caught up to me!
