Amy, what the hell hospital do you go to? I'm an isolation patient, and I am... get this... isolated. lol I'm not allowed to leave my room unless I'm going for an X-ray or something.

</end quote></div>

You're telling me, Emily....

I go to USC University Hospital. I've complained to my doc and he shrugs and says he can't force patients to stay in their rooms.

I reply, then why the hell are they in isolation? What's the point? Why does anyone have to gown up when going into their room if the patient can walk the hallways by his or herself.

It's insane. It's rediculous. And I feel like calling the idiot police on them.

He "can't force patients to stay in their rooms" ?? You think patients would be non-jackasses... hmm... maybe that's too difficult. I hate being isolated as much as the next guy, it's SOOOOOO boring, but I know it's for a reason. So get this, I stay in my room. *gasps, falls over, and dies*

i'm not in isolation but i dont' leave my room unless it's to get food downstairs or to go for an x-ray or PFT's.

there's frickin' bugs everywhere.

my doc usually isn't a moron so this issue really caught me off guard last time i was in in 2005. he's a pretty logical, pragmatic and smart doc.

but like every doc - they have their non-perfections

I havent been in the hospital since 2nd grade, knock on wood but if I had to go I wouldnt, cause Ive learned that so many people on here has gotten some kind of bug from a hospital. Now I dont trust hospitals. I guess Im kind of a germ a phobia, not too bad of one though.

My doctor uses the whole relaxation thing too! He tried that last time and I flat out refused. There is nothing relaxing about watching people mess up your medicine and no one believing you when you tell them what to do. I HATE the hospital

The most common infection that can be picked up in a hospital is staph.

Whenever I'm impounded I'm in isolation, so I'm not really exposed to anything funky unless I go out for a walk. I worry more about the waiting room on clinic day. I make sure to push the elevator button with my knuckles and I have my husband open the doors for me (which he does anyway since he's a true gentleman!). I don't even like to rest my purse on the receptionist's counter when I check in.

I try to apply the same rule of thumb as I do when adventuring in National Parks: Take only memories, leave only footprints.

Oh yeah, and don't pee in the water <img src="">

This is your friendly hospital ranger and germ-freak signing off! See you 'round the camp fire.

Great Topic!

I refuse to be in the hospital for clean-outs. Refuse!!!!

When I get admitted, I am in a pressurized, private room with isolation. I'm not even permitted to leave my room. In the end, my lungs actually feel worse than they were when I was admitted due to inactivity. At home, I never sit down. I do all my own cleaning, cooking, workouts, everything. In the hospital, I do nothing but sit on my ***. Even while in the hospital, my lungs drop largely after only a few days. I always feel worse. Then when I come home, it is that much harder for me to carry on with my day-to-day activities. And I usually get sick.

This past July I refused to go in the hospital for the clean-out. I did the whole 3 weeks at home. The first few days my husband helped a little, but it was so much better. I never got run down or sick. I even was on my treadmill the whole time and ran the IV's through without any assistance.

At Hershey Medical Center when you are admitted, CF'er are placed in different wings of the hospital based on the bacterias they are culturing. They are each given different nurses, physical therapists, and everything. I have MRSA and PA. I'm actually placed in one on the milder wings, yet I'm still considered contact isolation. It sucks.

I am 100% positive that you have more of a chance picking something up in the hospital or clinic then anywhere else that you can think of. For that reason, I go to clinic every 4 months and more frequently only when sick. I now refuse to be admitted into the hospital whenever possible. I hate it.

So far it's working for me. I do need help at home the first 4 days maybe. But after that, I am fine to carry things on without any assistance. Assistance with cooking and cleaning stuff. Basically, until I start to feel a little bit better and have a pattern.
