I've hit the 2 year old mark and my little girl has been interested in using the potty for months now.
But its this week that I'm really 'going' for it with her.

So moms, what did you/are you doing to take that big step?

I'd love to hear all stories and tips that worked for you!

Thanks alot!!! Any help would be appreciated!

We trained Chris with rewards of M&Ms. He also did shooting wars with Dad and Fruit Loops. We tried the Pull Ups, but they were still too much like diapers for Chris. Also, every time we decided to put him in a diaper because we were going out and were afraid of accidents, he reverted from any progress gained. We had to go all the way and deal with a few messes. Lots of luck! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> My turn will be coming with Alex again.

We practiced a little elimination communication with DD so she knew how to use the potty and trained early. I did naked butt time and M&M's -she day trained that week at home. Then I felt she was ready to learn to stay dry while out of the house so I put her in panties to play in the yard. One accident and she learned. Now she is day trained with occasional accidents and she wears a diaper for naps and overnight. She doesn't like her sleep disturbed and I don't have the energy to wake up at night to potty her so we are going to take a wait and see approach with night time learning.

Naked butt time and regular panties were more effective than using trainers. Ikea sells a $4 potty that is great if you need several of them (a good idea at first). Elmos Potty Time DVD and Big Girls Use the Potty book were two good resources. I always let Amelia see me use the bathroom and I think that helped when she was learning to voluntarily release her bladder. I'd give a big sigh and say "ahhhh" to let her know I was relaxing to do it.

Shopping for big girl panties was fun, I took her to Gymboree and let her pick a pair out. Pricey but she loved it because she got a pair that looked like the ones in her potty book. Turns out she wanted panties that look like regular undies rather than the character ones I had originally purchased. Go figure.

Good luck. Different things work for different kids and she is willing so just go with it. Oh, and paper towels or washable microfiber cleaning cloths come in handy for accidents (and there might be a lot at first!).
