My premiums with my insurance thru work are about $26 per month. Prescription drug costs are what's killing my budget... so far this year I've paid $1500 for both diabetic and CF meds. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0">

Most of my meds are paid for by the government here in canada. I also have the governement health plan and a plan through school. So most drugs are covered with the government plan, for a yearly deductible of 400 dollars. If for some reason it's not, i can use my school plan, which pays for 80% (have not had to use it yet.). The school plan was about 100 bucks.

The two things that I have to get outside of the hospital would be symbicort (inhaler) and zithromax. Everything else is covered.

I pay a good bit even w/ insurance but I think most of are thinking the health care in Canada is perfect. There are majore problems with Canada's health care system, not the least of which is the fact that you may be putting on a waiting list to go into the hospital.

The great thing about America's health care is that at least if you need admitted to a hospital, you can usually get in pretty quick. Some people in Canada have to wait months for cancer treatments.

I really don't think we want the government running our health care here in the USA, and I hate my insurance company.

Jfarel,

Yes, people may have to wait for some things in Cannada; however, there are 45 million Americans who don't even have the opportunity to wait in line or set foot in a doctors office. They will never get what they need and many of them will die because they are simply not covered. The government is already running our healthcare system. Big pharma and insurance companies have big lobbyists who buy congress and make sure that we are all very afraid of socialized medicine. I bet no one has ever filed bandruptcy in Cananda or France due to a healthcare crisis. FDR wanted a free universal healthcare system after WWII. His belief was that in order for a man to be truly free, he had to be free of the fear of a financial crisis due to an illness or disability. We need someone like him in the White House today.
