If you do start doing any type of nebulized treatments, I strongly recommend you get all the info you can on sterilizing the meds. There is a possibility that Ethan may have picked up pseudo because I was not educated enough on cleaning nebs after starting pulmozyme.
I have done quite a bit of research on the process and now feel I am doing all I can to get rid of any harmful stuff regarding the nebs. Please PM me if you want to discuss it.
Blessings,
Missa

Ellie's doctor won't start her on HTS until 6 mos...if then. He's very particular about safety data and how small airways are as an infant. He's stated that Pulmozyme can be quite irritating and that alone is something to keep in mind when her airways are still so tiny....he doesn't want to make any lung involvement potentially worse. He also suggested that he wouldn't use HTS and Pulmozyme concurrently unless warranted (i.e., recurring/frequent infections even while using HTS).

DS has been on atrovent/albuterol nebs since he was a week old. He started tobi at 3 months after he cultured pseudo and had bronchitis.

Our local clinic started ds on pulmonzyme when he was 2 1/2 -- our CF doctor in the city doesn't have many of his patients on it. Think he has more on mucomyst. We asked about HTS a couple years ago and he wanted to wait to see more studies on younger children -- at the time most studies were done on people with more lung issues, lower lung function #s.

My daughter age 5 started pulmozyme in October mainly to help with her sinus issues (thick mucus in the sinuses causing chronic infections). She doesn't do any other daily nebs and she hasn't had any lung involvement yet so we are hoping the pulmozyme will help preserve her good lung condition. I think it is different for everyone, whether each med/treatment will help. It is definately easier to tell how the meds/treatments are working when the kids are old enough to tell you and also once a good solid baseline is established. It is also important to feel confident in your doctor and your intuition bc you will come across many people (here and elsewhere) who will tell you how they think things should be done and that doesn't necessarily mean it is best for your child, KWIM? I would say that my daughter's sinus mucus has become significantly thinner since starting pulmozyme (thank goodness!) but that doesn't mean that it will work for the next person.

BTW, so glad to hear she is doing really well!
