But usually I am put on home IV's about once a year and take a round of antibiotics almost every other month. I would disagree with your doctor. Hopefully you are seeing a specialist. And it's not always that you're sick. Sometimes we just need a little "tune up" to help us out. Therefor PREVENTING us from having longer hospital stays. You are normal, don't worry.

So, I was wondering how often those of you have an FEV1 around mine are sick. Thanks!!</end quote></div>

I'm not sure if this information helps you at all, but just to demonstrate that everyone is so different with this disease....

My son's FEV1 has always run between 75-84. He is 22 years old. He has never been on IV antibiotics and only once on oral antibiotics. He has only "been sick" a few times, which were very mild in comparison and pretty much amounted to having a cold.

We did see an increase in cough and sputum when he was spending more time in the basement - doctor suggested right away to get (and keep) him out of there. We ordered two whole house HEPA filter air purifier units and moved him to the main floor. He also started all the usual CF treatments at that time (pulmozyme, saline & vest) His mucus production thinned and decreased and his FEV1 came back up to the low 80's.

It is so hard to compare apples to apples with CF - his sister has had far more lung infections and oral antibiotic treatments, yet her FEV1 has always run well over 100.
