I was on my iPod and had no idea this was old, but I stand by my statement.

I wont get into the marijuana discussion because that could go forever I will say that I know lots of cf'ers that it helps but they don't smoke it, they eat it or vaporize it. And they don't stay stoned all the time, most just use a little before bed to calm them, ease pains, help sleep and boost that appetite for a calorie packed midnight snack. And it is medically legal In a lot of states. Just saying, but it's illegal In Georgia and I've never actually used it.
I will say. Cigarettes are Dumb no matter what way you look at it.
Also, the "I'm gonna die anyway so who cares" mentality is dumb too. I didn't do treatments when I was younger because I was healthy and I didn't care and I didn't think anything bad could happen to me. I'm 17 now and having lunch with my youth pastor tomorrow to let him know that I want him to do my funeral. 15% lung function and oxygen 24/7 sneaks up on you real fast. You're in your twenties and healthy. Stop smoking, start exercising hard every day and do your treatments, you've got a lot of good years ahead of you. Don't ruin it.

Smoking has got to be the most suicidal thing you can do especially if you have CF. My sweet dad is fit, works out , did sports, looks Fantastic for his age. He is 66. And smoked all his life and now is dealing with lung cancer!!!!
If you smoke whether you have CF or not you are fool...... And if you smoke with CF you are suicidal......

Please stop.....

Hey I think it’s great that you’re at least contemplating this.
I can tell you, I wish I would have thought about it several years ago. I spent a good 7-8 years literally wasting my life and my body. I know what it’s like; my thoughts were always this: “I’m going to die someday anyway and I’m only hurting myself.” But one day you may care more about someone else than you do yourself and you may want to live as long as absolutely possible with them (I would have never thought it was possible). I ended up getting cleaned up and met a great girl, but the damage is done and it’s my wife and family who have to pay for it.
Don’t wait till you’re married or have children to stop and think “Crap – I completely WASTED my lungs and the best years of my life.” I pray that everyone that is messing around with anything that’s harmful to their body would at least stop and think about where(and how "well") they want to be in5 or 10 years.
And most importantly – no matter how long you have left, a year or 50 years, is going to seem irrelevant compared to the next million years. And where and how you spend the rest of all eternity is directly based on the decisions you make between now and your funeral…
More than once I almost OD’d because I didn’t care(and didn’t think about it). But when I look back, it terrifies me to think of what would have happened to me if I would have died not knowing Christ. Jesus says in Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” I thank God now every day that He had mercy on me and I was able to know this truth before it was too late.
If anyone stopped to reflect on their life and is uncomfortable now, it’s not a coincidence – Pray right now and tell God that you’re worried and you know that you have made a mess of your life but you want to change. Jesus says in John 5:24:“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
Thank You Jesus!!

That's exactly what I want to do is spend eternity with a god that gives small children fatal diseases. Suck it up. You only ride this merry-go-round once so make of it what you will and don't have any regrets!

I respect your right to believe what you want, however this question is more based on quality of life of CFers while alive. If your only reason in believing in god is that you are afraid of eternal consequences, that is a logical fallacy (specifically Pascal's wager).
While it doesn't particularly bother me that you brought up your faith, doing so can bother others and quickly derail a thread into an argument. There is a specific religion section on this forum for discussion of religious topics and prayer requests.
If you feel you must proselytise, please ask the original poster if he or she wishes to have that content included in their thread, or simply send a PM to the person you wish to reach out to.

Thanks

Random side note: yelling/getting mad at someone who is smoking with CF to stop smoking is like yelling/getting mad at someone who has anorexia to start eating. This is a mental health issue. Not every area of the world has the same attitude towards therapy/mental health/coping mechanisms. "If I can control my CF disease on my terms by smoking, then CF does't control me, I control it." Think about it.

Edited to correct my horrible proof reading. Yikes.
