to those who have had sinus surgery

I needed to get a CT scan as a part of the final decision making process.

<br />FYI: As CFKitty highlighted through her post extremely accurately, be prepared for some serious gross out, omg that came out of ME?? moments! I had to have packing and splints and I have a crazy pain tolerance, but the thought of having those taken out again can still make me run for the hills! The packing that they pulled out initially reminded me of two super sized soaked tampons being pulled from your nose! lol Of course I can laugh about it now. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I had polyps removed from my sinuses about 15 years ago. At the time I had to because I literally couldn't breathe through my nose. It was uncomfortable for a couple days after (the worse part was how much gauze they packed into my sinuses and had to remove and there was some minor bleeding). But obviously well worth breathing again. They said my polyps would probably return and I may need them removed again, but so far they have not caused problems since my surgery.

There's the right answer. Radiation is not harmless, but neither is an incomplete diagnosis. (That's assuming the CT scan is legitimately needed. In my case, it was.)

I have had 3 sinus surgeries. Three best things I've ever done. I'm sick a lot less now and I can breathe again. I won't lie - it's not a fun surgery. But, after all the healing and the infection is cleaned out, it's awesome. I have Pseudomonas up there right now and that's a whole other battle but when I had my first sinus surgery he said that the passages were small and impacted and I had puss growing on the infection. He said it was some of the nastiest sinuses he has seen. I see the ENT almost weekly now to just keep monitoring them. Good luck!!!

Just wanted to chime back in: along with clearing out your nose, it has an amazing impact on your lungs. I have gotten 0 bad cough/lung infections since my surgery back in November. It has made getting colds a lot less severe.

I've had repeated sinus surgeries. They didnt help for more than a month at a time. I am often stuffed, and have pretty much lost my sense of smell. I no longer take antibiotics for my sinuses, or I'd be on them all the time.

My 6yr old son is having his first sinus surgery in Jan 2012. They want to cut and make the ones in his cheeks wider, and his frontal sinuses they want to remove the little bones to make them one big opening, and take his adenoids out...anyone ever have the frontal sinuses worked on? What is recovery time?

<br>My daughter had sinus surgery 2 weeks ago, December 12th. The first few days she was very tired and in moderate pain. She pretty much layed on the couch (propped up in a sitting position) and watched Netflix. Around day 4 she started feeling more 'normal" and was able to get up and around more. She felt ok to go back to school on day 7 but only made it two hours so we brought her home and kept her home the next day. She went back on Wednesday and Thursday (days 9 and 10) and was tired but made it through both days. Christmas vacation started the next day so she has had a little more time to recover. She goes for her follow-up tomorrow.<br>She has thedissolveablepacking and wishes it would hurry up and dissolve. She isn't supposed to blow her nose until it's gone. We will find out more tomorrow. Her pain is nothing, just pressure from the packing.<br>She had multiple polyps removed along with 90% blockage in her maxillary sinuses and 100% blockage in her ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses. He also did a turbinate reduction. The procedure lasted 2 1/2 hours. He said once he got in there she had a lot more polyps then he could see on the CT scan and that the blockage was worse then he expected so overall it was much more involved then he anticipated.
