total healing from CF

I'm not sure if this was due to prayer, but i spoke to someone a couple of months back and we got onto the topic of cf.

This person mentioned that a friend of there's had CF, and it somehow just dissapered . She was on enzymes and all, and when she got to about 12yrs old everything changed.

She didn't cough like she did, didn't go into hospital and then decided to try not taking enzymes.

Its been years, and she has been living a normal life with no clinical signs of CF.

I found that shocking and unbeliveable. I wish i had known this person, but i just met him breifly whilst waiting for my car to get fixed and we had a chat.

Call me a pecimistic maybe, but I just can't wrap my head around the idea of a disease like CF just disapearing. I just don't think its possible. Maybe this person had mild CF to begin with and didn't need the treatments he/she was taking. Maybe her/his treatment was too aggresive, and this is why she doesn't need enzymes?

There is so much one could say about some of the many issues that
were brought up in this thread. Some good points were brought
up in regards to your questions, but I thought that I would add my
two cents worth. Just so you know from the outset that I do
come from the position that the Bible is true and reliable.

Do I believe that God could perform a miracle if He chose to and
heal my wife of her CF? Yes, I do believe that He could, but
I also realize that men do not have the power to heal as in the New
Testament when a few men were given that power from God. I do
not believe in the gift of healing as you see on some religious TV
stations but I do believe that God intervenes as He sees fit in the
lives of people. One needs to understand what the purpose of
miracles were in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Miracles were used as a sign and have only happened in
regular daily life in a few brief periods of history. You see
it happen a couple times in the OT with Elijah and Elisha and
during the time of Moses, but for the most part, that is it.
In the NT you only see it with the life of Christ and the
beginning of the NT church. It was there to authenticate
Christ and the disciples as them being from God. By the end
of the NT, men such as Paul who had healed men were no longer
healing people because God had brought that time of authenticating
to a close (1 Cor 13:8).

That leads to another question then. Why in the world would
God give my wife CF and then not heal her if He has the power to
heal her? I realize that the following will make sense to
some, but to others it won't. But I believe that bad things
happen to good people for a couple reasons. One, it helps us
grow closer to God. You see, we can't do life on our own and
my wife's CF makes us more dependent on our God which is a good
thing. It also puts us in life situations where we learn to
trust in God and have the opportunity to grow in our character and
personal life. Secondly, He brings these hard times into our
life so that others may see God in our life. As you all know,
CF is not an easy disease, but I can tell you that because of how
my wife handles what God gave her, it reveals the faithfulness of
God; it reveals the love of God; it reveals the peace of God; and
it reveals the sovereignty (the fact that He is in control) of God.
Thirdly, God allows difficult things into our life to help us
see ourselves for who we are. None of us are perfect and
difficult things can sometimes help us see where we need to change
more clearly.

If you have specific questions about certain verses please list
those verses so we can discuss them. I hope this helps some.
Someone also brought up how can we know the Bible is true
which if someone wants to start a thread on that, I would be more
than willing to share. I guess my two cents turned into fifty
so I will quit. I love the questions. Keep
asking.

A miracle does not have to be big to be a miracle. Why can't it be miraculous that you live past the median life expectancy. YOu live to be 40 instead of 14. Or why can't it be a small miracle that someone was given a transplant that gave them extra years to enjoy. Why can't it be a miracle that someone was on the transplant list, and even though they did alot of work was taken off the transplant list....something had to get in them to start doing some work. Alot of things people think they did on their own I question was it really them that put the bug in their ear they needed to actually do more, or was it 'something' else. I think people today put to much into "it has to be big to be God".

I also agree with Doulos. There were miracles especially in the Old Testiment and when Jesus came on the scene to show people God was real. They didnt have and writtings like the bible then. Then when Jesus came along He had to do things to prove who He was. Then his disciples did healings after his death to also prove God's power. I believe God still does miracles today but I dont think alot of us look at things and think they are miracles. I think there are some "big" miracles worked out there somewhere we just havent heard of....or maybe we have...like a cancer patient cured of their cancer. But in today's time I think most are small. Why....well God is God He does what He wants and we dont know His reasoning even if it doesnt make sense to us. It's probaly because there are Christians today, the bible even if you dont take word for word literally.....you still know about it and information out there is easier to get to know about God, where as it wasn't so way back in the day. Sure it would be cool to see miracles happen right in front of your face, it would be so much easier to believe then wouldnt it? But then would you still have faith or expect things to happen just because you believe?

not true Amy me old mate, many many scriptures point toward healing when true believers pray for it!!! just one cf er would be nice. anyway, you were raised a catholic so what else can you say after your teachings!! wink wink. and let me just grab the old tattered good book and spell out a couple of scriptures in your bible to prove Blackies point. bzzt drug rep.</end quote>

Spell them out, then, and I will explain them to you.</end quote>

I think these quotes from the scriptures spell out the power of prayer pretty well. I have cut and pasted this from http://whydoesgodhateamputees.com/god5.htm

For believers, it is obvious why so many prayers are answered. In the Bible, Jesus promises many times that he will answer our prayers. For example, in Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:
Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Ask and you will receive. What could be simpler than that?
In Matthew 17:20 Jesus reiterates that same message:
For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Since a mustard seed is a tiny inanimate object about the size of a grain of salt, it is easy to imagine that the faith of a mustard seed is fairly small. So, paraphrasing, what Jesus is saying is that if you have the tiniest bit of faith, you can move mountains.
Jesus says something similar in Matthew 21:21:
I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

The message is reiterated Mark 11:24:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

In John chapter 14, verses 12 through 14, Jesus tells all of us just how easy prayer can be:
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

In Matthew 18:19 Jesus says it again:

Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Now I have no faith, but would ask that those of you who do to pray that all suffers of Cystic Fibrosis in the world be instantly cured and that their faulty genes be corrected. Succeed, and there is a fair chance that you will convert many non-believers.

I've never heard of a story about CF but I dont doubt that its out there. But I can share a personal story. When I was younger burned both of my legs horribly and was told I would never run because I had damaged my nerves. Well my legs where wrapped up and I was sappose to go to a plasic surgen the next day my father ( a pastor) and many others from our church came over and prayed for me. The next day they took me to the doctors and took of the wraps and my legs were compleatly fine. Not only can I run I'm dancer.

I was raised in a church seeing healing take place in fact another time right in front of my eyes I saw a women with two different lengths in their legs be healed her leg grew 3 inches! I've met people that have come back to life and been healed of canser. I'm a strong beliver in miracles and I pray for one in my husbands life.
