Vest

I agree with every one of Chris's points. I don't want to comment on the studies he mentioned though, since I haven't seen them for myself.

The thing I want to underline though, is that for me, I don't DISLIKE the vest. I simply LIKE good chest PT more. With that in mind, however, the vest has been a lifesaver after I moved away from home. If it's done properly it can be an extremely useful clearance tool. I would only recommend it for after your daughters get older for the reasons Chris mentioned though.

Kinda off topic but I find it very weird that Canada will pay for everything else but not the vest. Ahh, trade offs, I guess. I think all the negative propaganda your clinic is throwing at you is probably in relation to it not being covered. Just ask SaltyandSweet about insulin pump coverage. I've never heard bad press about the vest here (or good, either, I guess) and I've certainly never had chest pain in the 10+ years I've been using it. If you're having chest pain, to quote my favorite meme, "You're doing it wrong."

I personally do not cough up a lot while doing the vest by itself, but if I start breathing albuterol or saline while doing the vest, I cough up a lot. Sometimes I do the vest by itself though, just to move stuff around. I think it does a lot for routine maintenance as far as moving gunk around. I still sometimes will ask my boyfriend to beat my chest or back if I want to really cough some stuff up, but when you think about the FREEDOM that people have now because of the vest, it's priceless.

I hate that the vest isn't covered for you.

It comes to the fact that it is really hard to do chest pt on Alysa. She is two and doesnt want to sit there while I "beat her" for 20 mins after making her sit there for 20 mins doing her nebulizer (which she is really good at)

So I end up not doing her chest pt and for that I am kicking myself. I feel awful and I know I have to but I just cant hold her down.. it breaks my heart.

I thought the vest may be good becaus then she can still watch her movies or play with a doll while she does it, ya know?

I am really between a rock and a hard place and it sucks that its not covered. The hospital here has one we can borrow to see if sh elikes it but even then, that is only for a day or two.

I can hear her coughing so much and actually making herself puke from all the junk in there and if I go near her for her chest pt she freaks out... she wont let ANYONE do it and I hate to say but it but bridery doesnt even work....
