Hi Everyone..Thanks for your tips...My husband is part owner of a commercial plumbing company..He has union insurance...Since he is looking to take over the company with his partner..I don't see him giving up all he has worked so hard for I however will consider bettering myself and in the future hopefully I could land a job with great insurance...Crossing my fingers....We live in the Seattle area if any of you know in laws or assistance places I should research....Social Security wouldn't be an option until he is 18 plus?? Everyone keeps telling me to go to Social Security?

I'm a new mom...to a 2 month old boy..I know we may not be close to running out...But the scarey part is that this CF hit so close to home. My husbands bosses daughter has been in the hospital for months, she just had a lung transplant when I was pregnant with my baby. Everyone kept talking about how bad Cystic Fibrosis was while I was in the hospital..Not knowing our baby would soon find out to have it.......So, when we found out our baby had it....The tears wouldn't stop. Everyone fealt terriable for talking about what they had...But they had no idea..This was about to happen.

I try every morning to look at my baby without hearing my mind say CYSTIC FIBROSIS..CYSTIC FIBROSIS...HOW CAN I CHANGE THIS...WHAT CAN I DO...I start cleaning..organizing his CF CLINIC Book...empty the garbages..start cleaning closets..just to keep my mind from going to a dark place...I love this baby..I'm just so scared I may forget he has it for a minute..and then feal that pain all over again...I'm also scared of not knowing if I will be able to have more children...It was so easy to get pregnant..To have him...Now, our future children will have to considered in allot more realistic way...It feels like everything has just stopped....I'm trying really hard to keep everything going...I know it just takes time...we haven't known about his CF now for even a solid month..Time helps right?? Thanks Sarah

I just moved from the Seattle area - we have been there for 10 years - our daughter still lives there.

Are you treating at Children's? Who is your doctor? We just love Dr. Gibson.

If you are treating at Children's you should check into their financial aid department. I know their income level requirements are higher than for Medicaid and they make a determination that could vary from nothing more due from you after insurance to a % due from you - so at least you might qualify for that and you might not have to pay your co-pays or co-insurance for your charges at Children's.

In the Seattle area I know of several companies that are providing health insurance benefits for part time work - check out Target, Fred Meyer, Lowe's, Starbucks & REI -- (I might be wrong about Fred Meyer) but I'm pretty sure all of these companies will provide health insurance if you work something like 20 hours a week - so maybe that would be a possibility for you.

I dont know about the Seattle area per-say but in some states especially in SC they have a medicaid type that is for children with long term illness or disability..here I think it is called Tefra as well as in some other states...since your son has already been through 2 major surgeries as well as longer hospitalizations this is the time to try and apply....even if you get denied now if his condition were to ever worsen you can reapply.... this type of medicaid does not take the parents into account. It is certainly worth looking into, if ntohing else as i say if conditions worsen he would likely be allowed on and then it wouldnt matter if his medical insurance ran out... Good Luck!

Sarah,

What state are you in?? There are a lot of states that have state insurance risk pools that are not based at all on income. If you are in Washington, Washington has one. I was on a health risk pool in TX for over a year. It was a good plan. They tend to be expensive but cover everything and get you insurance. That is what a lot of people end up doing when their regular insurance is maxed out. There are also a lot of states with "guarantee issue" insurance. That means if you have a small company, which could be as small as you and your husband doing something from home, they have to offer coverage. Let me know what sate you are in, sorry if it is in the other posts and I missed it

On a health note, there are a lot of us running around out there with very normal lives The hope for your child is very very bright. When I was born in 68, the researh and treatment was very inferior. Keep hope, it is a powerful powerful tool
