Who do you want as your next US president?

Depends on your definition of the word wrong. Law and right/wrong don't always go hand in hand.

In other words... just because marijuana is illegal doesn't make it wrong. This is, of course, my opinion. But it's only one of many examples.

I can't believe that in this day and age that past drug usage is held against someone! Get real! It doesn't freaking matter what they did in their youth. Everyone has a right to experiment. Clinton did it, Bush did it, and probably half of Congress. Why is the world are you even bringing that up--it has nothing to do with how Obama is now. It's not like he was Marion Barry or something! If I was a young college student I would probably be for Obama because of the air of "change" he is promoting. But being I'm older and have experienced lots of politics--I don't feel he is experienced enough to head the most powerful country in the world. I can't see him sitting across from heads of state...he is a baby politician still.

Hillary and the Democratic party are getting stewed in their own juices. The race card is going to have to be played very carefully. They have already set themselves up as a party that has a short attention span, and thinks it is ok to lose a war--even when we are wining. The Democrats took over congress but have not accomplished one thing--and they are getting paid to do nothing! With your taxes! We are winning the war, the US has gained allies with France--which hasn't happened in 30 years, Germany is on our side now. We are no longer a paper tiger, as in Clinton and Carter's time--we should have bombed Iran when they took our hostages. If you believe Iran isn't ready to arm it's nuclear program--you don't know enough to vote!

I believe in rights for all people--not special priviledges. Gays should be allowed the same rights and priviledges as anyone else, but I haven't made up my mind about marriage. I just know that with good forethoght--a good will, and power-of-attorney will let any couple have same priviledges as a married couple.

I want a health system that is fair and equitable--but haven't come up with a good system--maybe like what is in Sweden. But it is something that is a "sacred cow" like social security--and whoever brings it up is doomed by the other party.

I want our tax sytemm overhauled and a flat tax instituted. 10% of income, wether $10,000 or $100,000 is the same.

I don't believe in abortion. I believe the most dangerous place for a baby to be in the United States is in the mothers' womb. But I believe it is the woman's right to choose.

I don't believe in global warming, the trend is toward a global cooling. It is only a cause promoted by liberals who don't practice what they preach. Al Gore is the biggest phoney and totally off mark, and certainly didn't deserve to win the Nobel peace prize! The rest of the world would love to have our economy wrecked by THEIR rules, while 3rd world countries pollute endlessly. I have always recycled, drive a volvo, and try to be responsible enviornmentally. I believe in saving the whales and the earth, but it is not something unnatural that is happening--(global warming).

So I guess I disagree with a few of you...Oh--an I am voting for a war Hero who sticks to his guns. I don't think he waffles, and I think he is a straight-shooter. He is someone that I think would be respected by the rest of the world. And by the terrorists who want to bomb us back to the 7tth century!

I agree with you Terri on the whole Global Warming thing. It is natural. I have always recycled, kept my heat lower in the winter, etc. I like to help the earth and the environment and think that we need to preserve our resources. This is why I do it. Not because the air is too warm and the ice caps are melting. It's gonna happen, we aren't mother nature, we can't stop what she wants. Anywho....I think the government does need to get on top of environmental issues. We use so much energy everday that I get freaked out we will run out of oil before I die.

I also think that healthcare needs a huge over haul. I am not for socialized healthcare but I think there should be laws against denying someone coverage or making them wait a full year before they can have any pre-existing conditions covered but still have to pay the ridiculous high premiums (yes this happens in PA and it SUCKS!). I think there should be limits on how much can be charged for services and work on the lawsuits in healthcare so that Drs get a break and aren't being sued for stupid reasons. There is alot I want changes with healthcare so I'm not gonna list them all here.

These are my two big issues. Like I said in my post before...I still have no idea who I am voting for. No one stands out to me.

My smaller issue is rights for Gays and Lesbians. Seperation of Church and State....they should be recognized in marriage just like a man and woman are. Go back to ancient times....being Bi-sexual was normal. If I remember correctly from my Ancient History class it was the Catholic Church that put such a stigma on same sex relationships. I could be wrong though so don't quote me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Oh and yes I am Catholic so don't go thinking I'm just being mean to them. To me it is like inter-racial marriages. People may not agree with them but they are allowed. Same will happen with same sex marriages. People can disagree with the idea of it, but they are citizens and are entitled to the same benefits that heterosexuals are. It's discrimination in my book.

Edited to add:

I am for the legalization of marijuana. I think if the government taxed it like cigarettes and alcohol then there would be more money to use for more important things like education and healthcare. If they took some of the money that goes to finding pot dealers and used it for the harder stuff or to help combat violence, then we would all benefit. I don't think it will happen anytime soon but who knows maybe someday.

I'm also not going to not vote for someone just because they smoked pot when they were younger. Heck I took a few hits back in high school. Doesn't mean I am a bad person or that I can't function. That is a crazy reason to cross someone off the list. Look at the REAL issues and then decide.

I say jusy do away with marriage in the govt eyes. I think it was initally meant as an act in the eyes of God. Then the government, saw they could make money charging licences to get married and different tax brackets. There should be all civil unions. I am being discriminated today as a straight female. If I worked at our large local college, my same sex life partner would qualify for my benefits, but since I am not a lesbian, I am discriminated against and my babies daddy who lives with me as my life partner, can't get my benifits, because we are not married......why is that....I don't want to marry him.

Or prehaps we let not only allow gay marriages, but allow multiple marriages. What is different from be able to marry the same sex and being able to marry three people. I want to be able to legally have a bunch of sugar daddies.
