CF & Alcohol

To aspirate is to inhale something that shouldn't be inhaled. When you aspriate while throwing up, you inhale your vomit into your lungs (lovely thought LOL)

    my boyfriend has cf

A very large percentage (though not all) of men with CF are unable to have children the 'normal' way (something to do with the vas deferens). There are methods of extracting sperm etc., and adoption is also an option. There are several more scientific/informative threads running currently on...

Before you vote for Kerry...Get The Truth About Stem Cells

Bush has restricted stem cell research to those stem cell lines created before August 9, 2001. Many of these stem cells are useless from being improperly stored, and there are only so many available. Chances are, there are so few stem cells available for research that any research done with them...

    chiron and tobi?

Hi Everyone- My mom had emailed Chiron out of concern and curiousity about where Tobi was manufactured and if it was affected. Today a company representative called her and said the Tobi is manufactured in the US, and not at the Liverpool plant that was shut down, so there was no worry.

    Mother-in-law positive w/ Pseudomonas (7 week old w/CF)

I'm going to go against the anonymous poster who said "I would think your daughter would get it too". Pseudomonas isn't the type of thing that quickly and easily jumps from person to person. Is it possible? Yes. Is it a given, like that post implied? Absolutely not. The most recent post is true-...

    autogenic drainage

Can you explain more what autogenic drainage is? The name doesn't ring a bell, but I'm interested to learn more. Thanks

    What is Meconium Ileas?

Another statistic- once you've had a CF baby with meconium ileus, the likelihood that in another CF pregancy the baby will have meconium ileus jumps from 10-15% (like Sharon said) to 30%

    curcumin

OK this is slightly off topic, but does have to do with diagnosis. Before the CF gene was identified, how did they confirm a CF diagnosis? Was it just by sweat test, and if it was high, you were assumed to have CF? Just a random question on my part

Cleaning & sanitizing furnace air ducts...

I think if the money is there, and it wouldn't be a financial strain to do so, it probably is a good idea. The whole system is probably full of cat hair (just think of how cats love to sit on heat vents), which come winter when the heat comes on, will probably be pushed into the air. Also, if...

I NEED HELP WITH THIS QUESTION

If you are very concerned, go get a sweat test done. It's painless. I'm not sure about swollen lymph nodes being a symptom of CF? I've never heard of it. And also, what do monocytes on blood tests indicate?

What is the right age to take responsibility?

I've said it before and I will say it again- anonymous posting is one of the main problems on this board. Renee, you are clearly a strong woman with the best interest of her children at heart. So here's my two cents. I've known how to set up aerosols since I was about 9. Currently, my mom sets...

    The G-Tube

I was very hesistant to get a feeding tube-- but at a certain point I realized (or accepted) that without it, I wouldn't gain weight. After that, I can't say I was HAPPY to get it, but I accepted that it would become another part of my CF routine. And now, I have to say, it may be one of the...

    psueudomonas and swimming pools

Did the 16 month old have CF? Correct me if I'm wrong here anyone, but as far as I know, pseudomonas doesn't present a health threat to the general population. It only causes health problems in people with CF and burn victims. So, unless your child has CF or has severe burns, there's nothing...

    USING THE VEST

Hi, I got the vest when it came out, since I participated in the study. I think I was about 4 or 5. I didn't like it at the time. I felt like it shook me too much and made me a bit nauseous. Maybe this is just because I had had manual PT for my whole life and wasn't used to the vest, but I...

    ADVICE NEEDED

I think as of now, her son has only had sweat tests done, which don't test for the CF gene- they just analyze your sweat. Although genetic testing would be a good idea, since the tests were in the high borderline area. Good luck

    Antacid

I had severe reflux as a baby/toddler and was on Reglan (spelling?), which worked really well, according to my mom (as in I didn't throw up all over her at every feeding anymore ). For awhile I wasn't on any antacids, but from about...

    blue fingernails

It does have to do with lack of oxygen in your blood. When I'm feeling worse than usual, my fingernails are more blue and also my hands get cold. I think unless your doctors are worried, there's nothing to be alarmed about, unless it comes along with feeling worse too- than give them a call.

what do u do when u have lost hope!

I really didn't like that Lurlene McDaniel book- it was very hokey, but thats just me. Personally, I loved Give Me One Wish by Jacquie Gordon. It's also little old, but I thought it was great.
