    CF and too much Gas

Epona, Thanks for the smoke point info. It'll be good to have something else to do with that jar of stuff :-) I was unclear before about the high/low fat dairy thing. I just meant I'd read somewhere that high fat diary is better from the insulin resistance perspective than low or no fat fat...

    CF and too much Gas

Epona, what's the smoke point of coconut oil? Can you stir fry with it? Are we talking about the jar of white solid stuff? Also, I read that higher fat diary (cow) is better from the insulin/sugar standpoint.

    Stop Drinking Soda, Help Please

Pages 3-6 of this mega article deal with soda. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/24/magazine/the-extraordinary-science-of-junk-food.html?pagewanted=3&ref=magazine Not surprising. Certainly not an excuse to be a consumer. But interesting how much science goes into making sure you like the...

    Stop Drinking Soda, Help Please

Commit & Replace. Decide to make the change. Be true to yourself about excuses, justifications and rationalizations for backsliding. Don't let small mistakes turn into throwing in the towel. Identify big triggers/craving moments and have a plan. (Hot day, family BBQ...bring a six pack...

    Animals and CF

I read somewhere that the Frito smell of some dogs' feet is pseudomonas. My dog's feet smell like mud. Love him too much to think about this a lot. I agree with Occupy that work at a vet clinic, shelter, or zoo would be risky.

    Mycobacterium Abscessus in news

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21965088 Previously thought only caught from water/soil, DNA testing of bacteria samples in CF patients reveals it can be transferred from patient to patient. (passing this along from a post I read on the Bronchiectasis R Us forum)

Do I need to go to ER?

I think it has been an hour or more since you posted this question... I have a bad habit of getting worse on weekends, so I can relate. I think you should call your CF center and speak to the on-call doctor, explain what you are experiencing and have him/her help you make this decision--also...

How can I lose fat safely?

Just want to throw out there that women can have a higher body fat % and ripped abs...if they carry weight in their butt. Also, when I was little, my dad used to say people generally fell into one of three categories: endomorphs, ectomorphs and mesomorphs. (Google any of those words and see...

    Allergies with low IGE

Beccamom, I had fairly low IGE numbers and nice big welts for dust, some molds and cats. (Dogs showed up only when they used a specific formulation "superdog" haha, at National Jewish Repiratory Hospital.) Since having allergy shots for four years, my IGE is even lower, I believe. And I...

    Bowel Obstruction Aftermath

I want to voice my sympathy for what you moms go through. And your babies. You are all so wise and brave and I'm so sorry for all the uncertainty and trial and error you have to do. You have my admiration.

    High Calorie Stuff

Here is a thread from a while back with ideas how to maintain a lot of food/meals in your fridge for less effort. My leftover medley is heating in the microwave as I type. http://forum.cysticfibrosis.com/threads/37733-At-Home-Tune-Up-Survival-Mom-with-CF

    Gas... so frustrating

I hope you get some good CF/enzyme answers. I just want to throw in the question of whether you've changed something in your diet in the past weeks. I'm so unable to digest sorbitol, for example, that adding mouthwash to my dental care routine made me have horrid, constant-production, "enter...

    Regular CT Scans?

I think the most useful reason to have a CT scan is if you culture an NTM like M. Abcessus or MAC. MAC is concentrated in the right middle lobe and lingula, and M. Abcessus can cause cavities. Sometimes drs choose not to treat it -- the antibiotic regimen is intense-- and they do periodic...

postural hypotension anyone?? (big drop in bp from lying/sitting to standing)

I had my testing today and everything went great. Love those false positives. This time, my EKG during the stress test looked just as wacky as the first one, but the echo/imaging done while I was stressed, after 8 minutes of exercise, looked good. So, I AM indeed an example of a "young" woman...

HELP - Daughter can't breath after 2.5 minute competitive cheer routine-what to do?

Hi, I'm going to post an update in my own thread, but I wanted to note here a few things I learned during my second stress test. The max HR the cardiologist used during the stress test was 220-age. That means someone in their teens would have a max over 200, and 190s during testing, AT...

It IS so complicated. I hope you get more replies. That's great she is so active. Mastering the monkey bars at five is advanced!

Pseudomonas still there after erradication protocol. WWYD?

Not a medical professional here. I think I wouldn't push for IVs. Completely anecdotally, I feel like I started culturing stenotrophomonas as a result of being bombarded with a specific class of antibiotics for other stuff I was culturing. I do think erradication is worth trying. I think...
