    Coughing help

There is a mecanical way to do it when they are young, the RT who does my dd CPT have been doing it and still does it when she does not feel like cooperating. Basically you need to press firmly with 2 fingers in the middle of her neck, there is a bone there that makes them cough.

    First Culture of Pseudomonas?

My dd cultured it when she was 18 m/o. Also almost no symptoms, just a tiny cough from time to time, which I attributed to a cold. She was put on 3 cycles of TOBI and 14 days of Cipro. We got rid of it after the first round of TOBI.

    Question

It depends. If it gets eradicated and you don't have it several successive cultures ("serveral" varies by clinic), you are off TOBI. My dd did 3 Tobi cycles when she first cultured it, the culture after the first cycle was clear and so were all the subsequent ones. Based on that our hospital...

How long for antibiotics to work?

For my dd sometimes it takes up to a week to start seeing an improvement. Sometimes I was even on the verge of calling the doctor to tell them that the antibiotic does not work , but in the end so far the cough cleared by the end of treatment (10 days). This said, she never actually got worse...

    TOBI vs. Cayston

my understanding is that Cayston is an additional inhaled antibiotic to treat PA. Many people become resistant to TOBI over time, and with Cayston they have an alternative to IVs.

    Bactrim if not coughing?

My dd also cultured staph since diagnosed at 2 m/o. She gets antibiotics when the count gets high (something like 10^6) even in the absence of any symptoms/cough. I guess the idea behind this is that staph is damaging to the lungs too. If i am not mistaken there is a member here with 2 kids and...
