Well, leave it to me for OVERKILL....but this is how I do it.

I use the eflow.....

***I first just wash it with soapy warm water.

****I then fill the IQ STERILIZER with DISTILLED WATER (very important!!!)

***Then I put the eflow parts in the IQ BABY BOTTLE Sterilizer sterilizes with steam by getting the temp passed 160 to 212 (boling) . Since each cycle is only 6 minutes I push it several times to ensure that it will steam for 30 minutes.....I like this sterilizer because it keeps things sterile for 24 hours and it keeps sterilzing every so often on its own. The makers of the eflow say no to the microwave steam sterilizer, but they are ok with the IQ.

****After I remove the eflow parts from the IQ Sterilizer, I plop them in the GERM GUARDIAN. (I shake them off first!!) This dries and sterilizes all at the same time. I KNOW it says not to put wet things in it, but I have been doing it for six months and nothing has happened. I LOVE MY GERM GAURDIAN because nothing is wet when it comes out.....and there were times before I used it when I didn't remember to wash them and I would have to wait for them to air dry or use the hair dryer.

I LOVE BOTH OF THESE PRODUCTS. THEY HAVE MADE MY LIFE SOOOO MUCH EASIER. After burning up several neb cups and inhaling those noxious fumes, I am a believer in this way instead.

*****After every use I leave the eflow head in alcohol to keep it running well. Also, as the manufacturer suggests I sterilize the whole neb cup in alcohol for five minutes once a week.

my 2 cents.

Forgot to add that the CFF recommends using sterilization techniques either boiling for 10 minutes OR using sterilizer that heats above 160 degrees for thirty minutes...... IQ and the GERM GUARDIAN do that!

"The Germ Guardian works without harsh chemicals by utilzing a natural, safe, special dry heat method that reaches a temperature of 162 degrees to eliminate 99.9% of germs in 30 minutes including those that cause Flu, Dolds, Ear Ache, Diarrhea and RSV. Easy to use by simply pressing a button. Automatic safety shut off when sanitizing is completed. Works great on bottles, pacifiers, toys and won't shrink or fade colorful fabrics or melt plastic or rubber items. 7 1/2"L x 8 1/4"W x 8"H. Weighs 4 lbs. Two-year manufacturer's warrant"

I don't have any scientific proof about any of this, but we have the germ guardian and love it. I do still boil once in a while but I think the germ guardian does a fine job. As for not putting anything in there wet.... I never knew that! But I always wash, rinse, then put into a big plastic bowl with a lid and paper towels and shake it for a few seconds, that knocks off enough excess water that they get completely dry by the time it's done running.

I've asked at clinic before and was told the boiling helps to get the medicine build up out (or keep it from getting built up) and that the sanitizer is a good idea because if it is getting things warm and dry than it's the same or better than air drying.

Good enough for me!

We are looking into getting the germ guardian, but of course I want to check out all of the information before I spend the money.

We have the eflow and for about the last year we have been boiling it after every treatment. We haven't had a problem until a few months ago. It started to leak like crazy. Foundation Care was unhappy that we had been boiling it so often, and said that we needed to use the alcohol method.

Does that really work at killing all of the bugs that we want it to? I don't want to just be safe, I want the best that it can be. If anyone knows why alcohol isn't the best please inform me. We are willing to do whatever it takes, but knowledge is power.

Thank you

Tiffany
