Mandy:

If you are not following the cleaning/sterilizing procedure that the user's manual for the eFlow describes, you run the risk of damaging the unit, and preventing its longevity.

Tiffany:
The germ guardian has only been proven (based on lab studies) to kill the following bugs:

Respiratory Synctial Virus
Influenza & Coronaviruses*
Pneumococcus*
Haemophilus influenzae*
E.coli & salmonella*

Personally, I would not use the Germ Guardian.

*just got off the phone with CFF and PARI*

PARI does not recommend alcohol because it hasn't been tested for efficacy in cleaning/sterilizing the nebs. Their literature contains information about cleaning the neb with a mixture of vinegar and water.

Neither PARI nor the CFF advocate usage of the Germ Guardian based on the fact that it has not been lab tested nor proven effective in sterilizing PARI's products.

My original opinion stands. I would not use the Germ Guardian.

As to the vinegar vs. alcohol question; Vinegar (also known as acetic acid) is MUCH stronger than isopropyl alcohol. Chemically speaking, it's much tougher on bugs than alcohol is. I'll go into much more detail on this at a later date, but I just wanted to point out that vinegar is the preferred compound for sterilizing nebs. In terms of functionality, it's almost as strong as bleach.

I've been told not to use vinegar too. In fact somebody posted a link on here some time ago to the cff's page about general neb sterilization and it specifically said that vinegar is NO LONGER the preferred method. Here is the link: http://www.cff.org/UploadedFil...ppingSpreadGerms%2Epdf

I use the Germ Guardian; I wash my junk in hot soapy water, then shake it off and put it directly in the Germ Guardian. The way I see it, I'm doing something to sterilize them, which is way better than what I was doing before

You're going to get a whole mess of different opinions on these boards; What works for one doesn't necessarily work for all. Good luck!

Thanks for all the information.

lightNlife:

I see your point about the germ guardian. What about a baby bottle sterilizers thought? Like the IQ BABY BOTTLE Sterilizer.

Also - as far as vinegar. I don't think that it would be enough to sterilize. However, if you add about a TBS to the water when you boil your nebs you won't get any of that white chalky stuff on them.
