My son was 13 months old when diagnosed and had it been any later I believe he would have died. Often I read about people being diagnosed at 10, 20 yrs old and can't believe it. How is it even possible?

My grandaughter, 5 yrs old was diagnosed last Friday. Not sure how her Pediatrician could have misdiagnosed her. We will find out in two weeks, the extent of the damage. Pls keep Jada in your prayers. She is such a vibrant and happy little girl....

I'm praying for her now. Just please, please don't change that opinion of her! Just because she has CF doesn't me she can no longer be a vibrant and happy girl! It just means she'll have some extra challenges in her life.

janeleach:
I was diagnosed at birth. My older brother has CF as well (it took them a couple of months to figure out what was going on with him) so when I popped out sick they knew what to check for. I can't imagine what it would be like to suddenly be diagnosed later in life. On the one hand I've always wished that I could have memories of no medications, but on the other hand that would be a terrible shock to get at once instead of spending years learning and getting used to the details.
Still I can't complain, my childhood was MUCH more 'normal' than many with CF are blessed to have.

I was diagnosed at 21 - so I am one of those people <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Growing up, I had a few signs....I had strep 8 times one winter which led to my tonsils being removed...they also removed some nasal polyps in my nose at that time (a sign of CF). When I was 21 I had walking pneumonia and the dr's wanted to figure out what caused it....so they gave me a TB test and a CF sweat test...the sweat test came back borderline high so they did a blood test-and it came back positive for CF. I am 35 now.
